I went with movies I love to watch. The ones I own on DVD and go back to time and time again, or the ones that when I'm randomly flicking through channels and stumble across I find myself watching through to completion even if it means staying up late when I'm tired or forgetting to do that thing I had planned.

So how did you choose your list?

Thats what I did. Just movies that i genuinely enjoyed, even if they aren't great films. For example, my number 10 was Gremlins 2 (which is somewhat underrated in that it is a brilliant spoof of itself) because it is just silly and It makes me laugh every time i watch it. My number 2 was "That Thing You Do!" because i just love that movie immensely, despite the vitriol theplatypus has for the song.

I did that but then switched three because I had too many Mel Brooks movies.

I had The Rocky Horror Picture Show on my list. I can't not watch that movie. I don't think it's the greatest movie ever made but goddamn is it fun to watch.

This is probably the gayest post you've ever made.

Your face overvalues nostalgia!

True story: the first time I saw The Princess Bride was about 5 years ago. I never saw it as a kid.

Basically picked ten movies that have stuck with me the most after watching them, even if I've only seen them once. While I've seen the majority 2+ times, I've only seen the two Tarkovsky movies once (though gone back and watched certain scenes from them a lot) but I probably think about one of them every single day. So I guess mine was a "most powerful" list.

I don't know how many of you have read Moneyball, but that's pretty much how I made my picks.

Orph's is a really good point. To me, a favorite movie is one that hits me really hard when I first watch it, fascinates me for days afterward, and sticks with me forever. Also, it's one where I don't feel the time clicking by at all. My list was my ten favorites, ten movies that I'd eagerly recommend to someone else.

I kind of went with a combo. My first pick is a movie I've watched about 9000 times, and could never tire of - I started watching it when I was an ickle girl. Most of the rest are based on impact, or how many times I could watch them and still enjoy it. Like A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's just cute and great. Although I cut a few movies I really liked to include it and The American President (Which I included because it's my chick flick type film. It's my Pretty Woman or Dirty Dancing, or whatever, you know?).

Spoiler: show
1. The Sound of Music
2. Schindler's List
3. The Dark Knight
4. Fight Club
5. Memento
6. A Charlie Brown Christmas
7. The Departed
8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
9. Gran Torino
10. The American President

Six of mine ended up making the cut. Not bad.
