THAT is the question. Can be interpreted both ways depending on how you want to view it.

it could be cool if Nolan´s next movie has a really close ending. No subtext, no interpretations..." they both die at the end, really".

It's pretty clear that he's alive. How could it be interpreted differently?

In the next movie, one of the other characters wakes up and it was all a dream, then cries.

My main problem with this movie was, are we really supposed to believe all that action can take place in the matter of just two-and-a-half hours? Kind of unreal if you ask me. This movie should have been at least a couple weeks long.

Double-time, actually. The entire plot takes place over the course of 75 minutes.

i think it's more people wanting him to be dead at the end of the movie more than anything.

I do still wish it hadn't cut away when Alfred looked up and showed surprise at that restaurant.

I still would have read it as 'survival,' but it wouldn't have been as heavy-handed.

yup. If anything it would have made up for the autopilot lie that was only for the audience at some points.

Absolutely.

However, it also would have been too Inception-y. People would have rolled their eyes and criticized Nolan for ripping himself off.

They should've filmed DKR in reverse order.
