Whoever they chose for the next villain if it indeed is the Riddler, they'll need a really killer laugh to really pull it off. I really think Ledger did an excellent job with the Joker's laugh. Its never the same, but its always pretty damn sinister. I'd expect the Riddler to have a similar characteristic.

Why would the Riddler need a killer laugh?

Also, the Ed Norton talk is kind of funny, just 'cause it reminds me of all the rumors about him being cast as Two Face in TDK.

Oh hey that's right! God I'd totally forgotten about that but now you say that, yep I remember there being a lot of talk about that at the time.

Riddler can't be a main villain. He just can't. I think Riddler could work on the side, like the Mayor in TDK, or maybe on the same level as Gordon.

Regardless of what's been said of what Nolan will or won't do, I still think a big, fat n greasy, mobbed-up Penguin would work in conjunction with a smalltime Riddler. Introduce Catwoman, maybe, as a neutral player between Bruce and the Mob.

How come?

As it's already been talked about, I think having the Riddler could give you real solid opportunity at having a smart, twisty, cat and mouse type detective story. That seems good enough to carry a film.

good call. just saw the assassination of jesse james last night, and i think his performance was excellent. even though i didn't really like confessions of a dangerous mind, his performance there was not bad either. me not liking that movie is probably due to the script, not the performances.

it's probably all speculative bullshit, but that pretty much sums up this thread amirite? :D

What i think you meant to say was that the rumor is Depp as The Riddler (Not joker) and Hoffman as Penguin.

The Joker is no more, no reason to bring him back.

I only say so because Nolan seems to be drawing on the work of jeph loeb and tim sale. In their stories, riddler is ppretty small-time. He could make for a pretty sweet detective story, definitely... But I think there would need to be a supporting villain.

it´s not tim sale´s but...have you read loeb´s take on the riddler in "Hush"?

i was just about to mention this, although a key difference is that DV and TLH are early in his career, while Hush is fairly recent.

Okay I didn't think this video was necessarily that funny upon first viewing, but now reading this post totally made me think of it again

That video is hilarious, but nerdy as all fuck.

For the record, from the other thread:

Quote:
The next one can be Dark Knight Returns, set about 30 years later, and Tom Waits can play the Joker. Problem solved.
