That's not the only time Batman had to round up multiple villians...there is no way Riddler can follow up the Joker by himself.

After seeing how brilliantly Nolan and Ledger handled the Joker, I would never make this judgement without a final product in hand.

Didn't Die Hard III open with Jeremy Irons giving riddles to McClaine? That'd be a good one too.

Oh I'll be rooting for them not matter who they choose to be the next villian....it's just in my mind I don't see how they follow up the Joker. In a series about escalation you don't escalate from the Joker to the Riddler....there would have to be several villians....

I don't think the series is about escalation. This film was very much about escalation, just as they talked about at the end of Batman Begins. At the end of TDK, they described something very differrent.

the notion that a sequel to this must be COOLER and BIGGER will absolutely kill it

Bale has said before that he will not do it if Robin is in it. :nice:

It kinda seemed like they were going the way of more and more constume freaks coming out of the woodwork coming up with crazier and crazier plans.

That's cause Bale isn't a fan of the comics and probably only knows Burt Ward's and Chris O'Donnell's Robin. Dick Grayson is one of the most important characters in the DC universe. He's the character that keeps Batman sane.

Well that very well may be true, but in the true canon of the comics, wasn't Batman out there and doing his thing for quite some time before Robin came into the fold? I'm not sure it would fit into Nolan's arc for the simple reason that Batman in Nolan's world still hasn't been existing for all that long yet. We're simply not there from a natural storytelling point.

That's why I think they could introduce Dick Grayson without him turning into Robin in the same movie. He can become Batman's ward and maybe even discover that Bruce is Batman and begin his training, but he doesn't have to get out of the cave in the next movie. His presence could keep Batman from going over the edge.

I like the idea of someone keeping Bruce from slipping out into the tide of it all, but we already have established characters who would be great for that, and who certainly warrant a higher profile than they've had.

actually robin appears very early, both in batman history and batman´s "time line", so it wouldn´t be strange to have him.
If you take the story arc of Year One, The Long Halloween, and Dark Victory (which, if I´m not mistaken, is a big influence in nolan´s interpretation of batman), robin would be very well placed in a third film. Bale says he won´t do it, but he also claims Dark Victory as one of his favorite batman stories, and Robin plays a significant part there...I don´t know...I wouldn´t mind him

I'm sure it was actually the Nolans who said that Robin would not make an appearance in any script they write. I'm pretty sure, anyway. I've never seen anything from Nolan saying he wouldn't do Penguin, and I'm still pretty adamant that he'd make an awesome villain.

As long as they refuse to bring Robin into this, I can't help but think that they know what the fuck they're talking about.
