i tried not to dig too deeply into the secondary and tertiary characters, but that one just worked too well. my only concern is my future inability to use "Frolfsbane" in any future chud-as-superhero threads.

I learned more about lizards in Harmless' posts in this thread than I think I've ever learned about lizards in my life.

I love my lizards. My Leopard Gecko sometimes emerges from her cork bark and stands on her 'mountain of pebbles', her head held high in the air like a lion surveying her pridelands :heartbeat:

i just saw this. It was fun. I'm not a huge fan of the green goblin but the actor playing spider man was loveable. My favorite bit was probably when they all swing the cranes out for him.

To be fair, he was also green

he was kind of an odd villian to reboot a franchise with. Maybe they thought (correctly) that the origin story film wouldn't need it.

Still, this felt a bit light. i enjoyed it, but I feel no real need to see it again.

Batman was rebooted with Scarecrow and Rha's Al Ghul, both more or less fringe rogues. More credence to the theory that "Amazing Spider-Man" was modeled after "Batman Begins".

Spider-Man's never going to be *heavy* emotionally or artistically. They probably pushed those angles as far as they could go for this one; I'm glad they did. In Batman they have as much license as they need to take the film beyond 'light entertainment'.

For sure, but it still felt like there was nothing at stake beyond really liking the character. I'm not sure that'll be enough.

actually the story from spiderman is modeled more after they Venom story in Ultimate Spiderman than it is Batman Begins.

while this story isnt his origin, the use of a doctor and fellow coworker to richard parker on a project they both worked on together is very similar

in the comic petes dad and eddie brocks dad were working on a suit for military purposes but then found that it could be used as a all encompassing healing technology. once the suit is put on, it would mimic the users DNA, create new cells to replace damaged ones, and the user would be healthy again.

this suit was keyed to parkers dna and pete wore it. since parkers dna was changed by the spider bite the suit would mimic that to the nth degree and gave birth to venom.

in the movie, petes dad worked with kurt connors on a way to heal people, using dna from animals. while not truly a criminal in any story, the lizard is instead a creation of a miscalculation on connors idea.

i dont know if there are any villans that they could have used that wouldnt be considered fringe villians for spiderman. aside from the Goblins (green, hob and other) spiderman is much more like the flash in terms of villans. has plenty but none so super powerful.

i wish one of these spidermans coming up use the original screenplay that was proposed years ago....with electro as the main bad guy along with kingpin and vulture. perhaps setting the ground work for the sinister 6

I'm not talking about the story, I'm talking about rebooting a film franchise and how Sony is taking their cues from Warner in terms of tone, structure and character dynamics. The stories themselves are very different, for sure.

i wouldnt say they are taking their cues from batman about rebooting. they are using common sense.

as much as i liked toby as parker it is not feasible to have a 40 year old toby doing web of spiderman pt 18.

personally from my view instead of a reboot they should have just done a recast and explained everything away that its like a comic, a new artist and his view of what spiderman looks like

i will also go on record and say that the actor playing spidey nailed it this time around as far as the wise assery. i think it had more to do with the script than i can say toby though
