I caught this in the theater last night. This is the debut feature from Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) and it's an adaptation of the book of the same name. Ayoade wears his French New Wave influences on his sleeve, but it's not so over the top that it gets in the way. It's a beautifully shot film and the soundtrack is great, including a few songs by Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys.
Submarine is a Comedy | Drama movie of 15-year-old Oliver Tate has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to extinguish the flame between his mother and an ex-lover who has resurfaced in her life. I liked this movie.
Me too, remanjot! Although I think the part about his goal "to lose his virginity before his next birthday" is very misleading and I blame whoever did the press for this film. That's not the case at all in neither the book nor the film. They make it sound like some type of American Pie scenario when really it's just about a teenager dealing with his first serious relationship.
