Peter Falk was one of the greatest actors of all time. He turned in maybe the greatest male performance of all time alongside Gena Rowlands in John Cassavettes's A Woman Under the Influence. RIP.
Falk, a five time Emmy Award winner, was best known for his role as the rumpled raincoat wearing detective in a TV series that began in 1971 and ran through 2003, though new episodes were broadcast less frequently over the years.
He suffered from Alzheimers and was placed into conservatorship in 2009.
Falk was also nominated for two Oscars; in 1961 he got the nod for "Murder, Inc.," while a year later, he earned a nomination for "Pocketful of Miracles."
