I couldn't find the thread on it so...

Quote:
HBO has given the go-ahead to “The Pacific” (aka “The Pacific War”), the new World War II miniseries produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The duo had previously collaborated on “Band of Brothers,” which focused on Easy Company paratroopers in the same war’s European theater.

I think this will be great, but I wish these guys would tackle another war. How about the Korean War? That one never gets any love, I bet it would be interesting to learn more about on the small or big screens.

This is great. Nice to see a quality program coming about the war in the Pacific.

Been looking forward to this big time since I heard this a few months ago. I'm a huge WWII nerd.

Quote:
The Pacific will not be associated with any of the characters from Band of Brothers and is to be based primarily on two memoirs by U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie.[1] The series will tell the stories of the two authors and celebrated Marine John Basilone, as the war against the Empire of Japan rages.

The Pacific is being spearheaded by Bruce McKenna, who was one of the main writers on Band of Brothers. Hugh Ambrose, the son of Band of Brothers author Stephen Ambrose, will serve as a project consultant.

Some Details On "The Pacific"
By Garth FranklinTuesday August 14th 2007 12:22am
image HBO's "The Pacific", the Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg produced, $150 million ten-episode World War II television drama mini-series began production on Monday in Queensland, Australia.

William Sadler has scored the lead role of Lieutenant General Lewis "Chesty" Burwell Puller, the most decorated Marine in history and the first, and only, United States Marine to receive the Navy Cross (and he got it five times).

James Badge Dale, Joseph Mazzello and Val Lauren have already been cast. Joining them are Aussie actors Gary Sweet as a gun man, Rupert Reid (TVs "Blue Heelers"), Tom Budge ("Last Train to Freo") and Linda Cropper ("Black Rock").

The series, a follow-up to "Band of Brothers" as such, is based on the experiences of Marines John Basilone, Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie - the later two penning gritty first hand accounts of the combat and atrocities that took place between US Marines and Japanese soldiers during the Second World War.

Shooting will continue in Queensland through til November before moving down to Melbourne.
