This is a new US version of the very excellent and hilarious British TV show Shameless. US versions often don't go down as well, but if they manage to do justice to the original, you guys are in for a real treat. It can be moving, always engaging and constantly hysterically funny. And the US casting looks fuckin excellent too..the Fargo guy is in it, William H. Macy. Give it a shot.

Nah I think it could have a cool spin on the original and be good on its own merits. They're probably using the same storylines but tweaked enough to make it relevant to US audiences..like I doubt it'll be as gritty as the UK version..doubt they'll be selling pills from behind the bar in the Jockey, or from the ice cream van for that matter..but you never know..this could be good.

Have you ever seen the original? it's infinitely better but I cant see how the later series' storylines will be allowed on US tv..but we'll see I guess

I have not.
I'm interested in what you mean by that last sentence... its on Showtime, so its not like they'd need to censor anything (if thats what you were getting at).

Oh man, seriously, if you have access to the UK version definitely watch it! it's crippilingly funny! but it can turn on a penny and be really moving too..great great tv.

Yeah, I really dig this. I didn't know that its a re-tread of a British show, but I don't mind. Its good. This, Californication, and Episodes... that block on Showtime is all right.

The UK version will never be topped, and anyone who has seen it will tell you there's no way US networks will allow the storylines that comes later. So if you can find the original online(it's definitely out there) watch that instead.

I still don't know what you mean by that. The show is on Showtime, which can show pretty much anything.

I dunno what that means, my understanding of US tv is that it's pretty conservative, but even HBO and that kind of level would have a hard time getting away with some of these storylines.

basic networks are, yes. HBO and Showtime are premium channels and can get away with showing shows like Real Sex and whatnot.

Yep for sure
Im about to check out the US version, will be interesting to see how this stacks up against the original.
I doubt they will get far enough into it to show those later storylines.
