Looks like Wonder Woman may be back on TV soon after all. It's been a turbulent month for the DC heroine, as Warner Bros brought their new David E. Kelley scripted version of the character to the networks, only to see them all pass. Now though, Deadline reports NBC has made a surprise move and ordered Wonder Woman as a pilot.

When Deadline reported the story on the networks passing, it was said that for NBC, it simply wasn't a consideration because the network was in such a state of flux and the project was too big for them to take on at the time. Now though, just a couple of weeks later, Comcast taking over NBC has been finalized and new president Robert Greenblatt is going forward with some big moves – with Wonder Woman a particularly notable one.

We now know David E. Kelley wasn't being overly optimistic when I spoke to him last week, in the wake of the networks initially passing on Wonder Woman, and he said, "Everybody is confident that we're gonna see it."

Deadline has the first bit of plot description we've seen for Wonder Woman, describing it as, "a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman -- aka Diana Prince -- is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life."

BleedingCool.com has read the David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Boston Legal) Wonder Woman pilot and put up a little list of some of the *spoiler-free* details about the first episode in order to clarify a few things about the project, which has been under the fanboy microscope over the past few weeks. A special warning to all of you who don't want to know anything about the new show and might consider any specifics to be spoilers. (Which I kinda do, personally. So beware!)

Keep in mind too that many of these details could change through rewrites and revisions.

So which elements from the DC Comics will be a part of the new show?

Long ago, government man Steve Trevor crashed onto Wonder Woman's island and brought her back to New York, but now they've split up. She still loves him, though, and it's obvious that their relationship is going to be a focus.
Diana doesn't have an invisible jet, but she does have a bunch of multi-colored aircraft.
She does have the lasso and those bracelets with which she deflects bullets.
Her nemesis is Veronica Cale, who on the show is an evil scientist and rival businesswoman with an diabolical plan.
BleedingCool goes on to write that Wonder Woman has two alternate identities; one being Diana Prince (no make-up, glasses, hair up) and the other being Diana Themyscyra, the head of Themiscyra industries. Now, you might want to write this down or draw yourself a diagram. Ready? No one knows that WW is Diana Prince, but the whole world knows, Tony Stark-style, that WW and Diana Themyscyra are the same.


Oh, and there's a nerd think-tank of sarcastic techs who live in her basement, dance to Kanye West and help Diana solve crimes. More deets on Wonder Woman…she still loves Steve, identifies with E.T., loves planes, wants to belong with regular people, sings along to her favorite songs on the radio, hates Wonder Woman merchandizing, and has pajama jammy jam sleepovers with Myndi. Also, when she's Diana Prince she's shy and when she's Diana Themyscyra she's confident.

BC then described the piece as a "slightly goofy comedy-drama about a hotshot business woman who moonlights as a superheroine, packed with Girl Power pop-songs and including the awkward phrase 'You go, girl.'" Pop songs written into the script? "One Way or Another" by Blondie; "Wonder of You" by Jeffrey McDonald; "Golddigger" by Kanye West; "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga; "Last of the American Girls" and "Extraordinary Girl" by Green Day; "Pepinot" by Les Choristes; "I Only Know How to Love" by Christina Aguilera. Oh, and an action scene set to Beyonce's "Single Ladies."

The new Wonder Woman has been found: Adrianne Palicki, best known for Friday Night Lights, has been cast as the DC superheroine in the new NBC pilot, according to multiple outlets.

David E. Kelley is writing and executive producing Wonder Woman. The pilot is going to be directed by Jeffrey Reiner, which certainly couldn't have hurt Palicki's chances – Reiner was the main director on Friday Night Lights for the first three seasons, before going on to direct the pilots for Caprica, Trauma and The Event.

The second time was the charm for Palicki when it comes to Wonder Woman. Back in 2007, she was reportedly one of the candidates for Warner Bros.' aborted Justice League movie.

From her own Twitter account this morning, Austin Powers actress Elizabeth Hurley revealed that she was joining NBC's David E. Kelley Wonder Woman pilot as the villainess.


Hurley will play Veronica Cale, a role that's been described as "highly educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy." Of course, it was only a few weeks ago that we learned that Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki had won the title role of the battling Amazonian Princess.


In the story, Cale's company is developing a super-soldier drug to make people stronger. Notably, a few days ago, a casting notice went out looking for "soldiers that appear to be on steroids."

The casting continues for NBC's Wonder Woman pilot. On the heels of Elizabeth Hurley signing on as the villain, actors Pedro Pascal and Tracie Thomas have also joined the project, reports Deadline.

Pascal (The Good Wife) will play a liaison between the police and Wonder Woman/Diana, who is "devoted and loyal." Thomas (Wonderfalls) will play Etta, who is the personal assistant to Wonder Woman (Adrianne Palicki) in her Diana Themyscira guise - Themyscira is a successful corporate executive, who is publically known to also be Wonder Woman. In this incarnation of the story, Diana Prince is a third identity Wonder Woman uses to truly be incognito.

Update: But wait, there's more! Deadline just revealed that Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride/Saw) has also joined Wonder Woman. Elwes will play Henry Detmer, who is the acting CEO of Themyscira Industries. Deadline has this nicely creepy description of Detmer: "He runs the day to day operations of the company and acts like an Uncle to Diana although he could be a possible love interest down the line."
