so yeah anyway Michael Shannon is getting his ass kissed by critics for his acting chops in this. It would be nice to see him get more attention come awards season because really he's like the best actor out there.

I've been looking forward to this one. It's directed by a guy named Jeff Nichols, whose debut film Shotgun Stories (also with Michael Shannon), is one of my favorite movies of the last few years.

Loved it.

It was the first movie where I read the script first. I kind of wish I hadn't.

Michael Shannon was fantastic as usual.

so yes the product seems intuitively attractive. There are many parts at play here which appeal to our romantic sentiments; gifted actors and favorable subjects ranging from mental illness to spiritual whimsy. Unfortunately it falls flat and fails to stir up anything interesting or meaningful. The film lacks chemistry. I had supposed too that Take Shelter work however the movie does not intuit this.

I disagree completely.

If mental illness and spiritual whimsy are all you got out of it, well, then that's your first problem.

I watched it a second time. I can't get over it. Michael Shannon is phenomenal. Damn the Academy for ignoring the guy.

Spoiler: show
That church potluck scene where he finally explodes? God damn.

Did you pop a brain vessel trying to write this, Dev?

I wish that you actually possessed the spirit that you fancy having. I wish that you were more than objective and selfless. But you are not, your judgements are acute(more so cute and trite) and your character is completely elusive. You are exactly the kind of person that can be labelled a tool. Despite your ability to moralize your own position and have others around you perceive as a kind of higher man, you will forever fail to subjugate any higher men. Yes and that it is why you will spend your entire life trying to accuse actual higher men of insincerity, like you have done here today. And because you are of a selfless creed(again to be clear I mean lacking a self) you will fail to own any actions here on the board or in any other area of life. When you don't we will stare back into the abyss at a completely unaccountable one trick pony. It is stunning yet not surprising that you are admired.

and btw this is the kind of substance that art should really contain, not just false allusions to substance.

It reminded me of the classic responses you'd give Buffalohed back in the day. *board nostalgia*

Fantastic movie. Im not sure if the ending enhances or detracts from the story though.
