Most of the extra stuff worked quite well, but it was probably still a good idea to trim it since 3 hours sitting in the theater was more than enough.

This summer when I had a few days off I watched all three extended versions in the span of about 30 hours (split across two days). I can't see how someone would watch all three in a row though.

When ROTK came out a few theaters screened the first two extended editions and then the theatrical ROTK all in one run. I think they had hour breaks between the films, but other than that, it was a straight run-through. It's one thing to watch them at home, but to be out at a theater for close to 12-13 hours is just nuts.

I love the extended versions of these movies, especially how they re-edited the entire beginning of FOTR to have bilbo do the narration...which ultimately makes more sense because he is writing the beginning of his story, which is THE story...

Besides the extended parts I also very much liked the documentaries that came with it. Very fun and informative to watch. Oh, and I got all the three statues that were included with the extended versions.

I did
It was tough...we took about a 10 minute break between FOTR and TT, and then a 45 minute break between TT and ROTK. The last 3 hours of ROTK, we were all going stir crazy and the room basically turned into an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
I want to try and do the 6 Star Wars movies in a row, in one day.

i thought the theater version of ROTK was a bit long itself.

well i love ROTK, but i thought that some of the scenes that were in the extended version should have been in the theatrical, and vica versa.
my changes:
for theatrical, take out the 10-15 minutes after the ring is destroyed, end it more quickly. i like everything that happened after, as most fans of the extended version probably do; but for the theatrical release it dragged on for the average crowd.
add the death of saurman to the theatrical.
i know i have others, but its been awhile since i've seen the theatrical release, and those are the two most important i think.

I agree. I thought that the scenes cut from ROTK were the biggest losses of any of the cut scenes in any of the films.
-Death of Saruman -Mouth of Sauron -Aragorn and the Palantir -The dead attacking the Corsairs
That stuff was really key to understanding many of the other scenes. A lot of the extended scenes in the other films were really cool and added a lot, but they were ultimately unnecessary to understanding the movies.
