This was awesome tonight. Laura Linney and Paul Giamati steal the show. Great stuff! Loving the grand speeches and the Adams/Washington/Jefferson/Franklin interactions. History teachers ought to show this in class --- minus the male frontal nudity and swearing...

At first, I found it very difficult to understand and follow the dialogue. But that became better as time wore on.
I really like the adaption from the book to the movie. They did a good job of focusing on the major points, and have good transitions. I really like how they are setting up the relationship between Adams and Jefferson. So far so good.

I agree. I also loved the interactions between Sam and John Adams.
So far, this is excellent. It's beautifully shot, I love the handheld approach, and the performances are just a joy to watch. I honestly believe in everything I'm seeing; it doesn't feel overly melodramatic or staged. Plus Tom Wilkinson as Ben Franklin is inspired casting.

Did you read the book? If not, you should do so in the meantime. It's an awesome book and definitely worth the read. You can follow it up with 1776 by the same author.

i haven't. in regards to american revolutionary period reading i've been on a joseph ellis kick lately, and i've also read some dershowitz. i'd eventually like to get to david mccullough's work, it's just that i have about a dozen books i want, or feel the need, to read before devoting such time to his books.

I've read on a couple history book review sites that McCulloghs' John Adams, and they largely say it isn't that great; that he pretty much goes through the motions and is living off his excellent prior works. But I guess you guys aren't finding that to be the case. Maybe I'll check it out anyway.

Intially I wasn't especially interested but I keep hearing really good things. My schedule hasn't been very tv friendly of late; hopefully I can catch it On Demand in a couple of weeks.
