So I've gradually been coming out of my cocoon from being overseas so long. Ironically, when I went to Djibouti the second time, Serenity was the inflight movie, but I slept through most of it, but loved the second half of it. I've finally seen the full movie and loved it. Kept watching it, learned to love its subtleties, and found out about Firefly. I liked the movie so much, and read that a sequel may come out, or perhaps a mini-series if the DVD's to firefly and Serenity sold well, so I bought the DVD's. I've got one episode left on Firefly...and I just can't figure out why the hell this show was cancelled...

It seems like there is somewhat of a cult following for this show, am I the only one? I mean...am I the only one that thinks the concept, the show, the movie was just fantastic? I just can't come to grips with the fact that this show was cancelled! How?! There's no original programming on TV anymore. It's all the same old dry sitcoms, depthless crime dramas, or the same old dry reality shows, or the same old crappy inane game/contest shows. This was original, well produced, well written, and compared to todays TV, had the BEST, deepest characters, and far and away the deepest story. Many of the characters, and their stories/backstories, are just utterly compelling. It had some sort of meaning to it. Something that TV is just absolutely devoid of.

This show was a rose in a garden full of weeds, and the sad part is, if you read where the story SHOULD have gone, it could have been so much better. And I can't help but think what it might have been if it hadn't been cut short and interrupted by the FOX goons.

So what's your opinion on the show and movie?

I thought Serenity was pretty good, never seen the show though

Look into it, the backstory behind it is arguably better than the movie, and really helps the movie make sense. Get the DVD's! I want a sequal or a mini-series!

You're not the only one...they're called Browncoats, and there's actually a lot of them. I liked both the movie and the series and I typically can't get into sci-fi series at all.

I couldn't get into the show. After being spoiled for 4 years by Farscape, the effects looked terrible (even despite a budget 4x the size). I tried to watch a few eps, but it just seemed so. . . derivitive.

You want a good sci fi series that doesn't dumb anything down, Farscape is the way to go.

My wife is really into Farscape and she loved Firefly/Serenity as well. Peronally, I prefered Firefly, but as I said, I'm not really the target audience for these shows.

I couldn't get into Farscape, or Battlestar Galactica. I never really cared for Star Wars, I hated Star Trek. But I just love this series and the movie.

And yes, River and Inara are just...well...they speak for themselves...

What persuasion of woman is Inara anyway?

I've only seen a couple of episodes of Firefly, but I love Serenity. I love the characters, their dynamics, and the space-western vibe of it all. I need to watch the entire series (as short lived as it was) and then re-watch the movie.

It's a good question bond...a damn good one. Mine's into all that stuff, the old Star Treks, Star Wars, you name it so I guess it adds up in that sense but the male/female divide is pretty baffling.

I do have to say that this movie/series along with Slither really made me like Nathan Fillion.

Yeah, but they all look the same. Claudia, Gigi, Virginia . . there's just SO much more variety in your chick selection.

And hello. . .
Meet the reason girls are into it.

Yeah, I think the wife does love him.

I still say he has nothing on Nathan "I'm Bill Pardy" Fillion.

Even after 4 seasons, Pilot never failed to blow me the fuck away. The most amazing puppetry ever, hands down.

Firefly= Cowboy Bebop?

I liked the Serenity movie but it seemed like they stole the idea from the anime. Weren't they bounty hunters in Firefly too?
