I enjoyed this. Not always the biggest Wes Anderson fan, but this was good.

Yeah, there are a lot of contrived plot devices and deus ex machina. But when viewed through the context of fairytale/adventure story, the film still maintains it's charm and exuberance through all of that, I think.

It's a movie about being a child and reveling in that kind of innocence and imagination. It's not meant to be realistic. Without things like the tree house - the little flourishes of beautiful absurdity - the end would have unraveled completely.

But for what it is, I think it works pretty well. For the most part.

The last 10 minutes or so seemed really rushed. I didn't care for the kid playing Sam, for the most part. Any line he had that was over 6 words were just poorly delivered. Some parts fell kinda flat. On one viewing I'd put this middle of the pack of Wes Anderson's works, but I still really enjoyed it.

I saw it over the weekend and while flawed it was enjoyable. Anderson always hits on the part sof childhood that were the hardest. Loneliness, isolation; growing up isnt easy and I think that's why I always have loved his films.

Finally got to see this. Outstanding. Loved every second of it... and I'm usually not much of a Wes Anderson fan.

This. Such a perfect blend of comedy and romance, every scene felt meaningful, with no dragging.

After a second viewing, this might top Tenenbaums for #2 in my best-of-Wes list. He's really honed his craft & style perfectly now.

I loved it, too. I'm especially impressed that, even how absurd and somewhat abstract or whatever it is, the emotion still holds up really well.
And I think that the impression I got from the trailer, that this looked like Pierrot le fou with kids does hold up very well.
Spoiler: show
There is even a scissor stabbing.

Watched it.

I always liked Anderson's style. It's unique and helps tell his stories, but I hardly care for his characters. It was a sweet story about pre-adolescent love and the dangers of adulthood, but in the end I'm never going to watch this again because I cannot connect with the characters. Maybe it's the deliberate acting style? I wish they were as lush as the set pieces.

I guess I'm just not the best Wes Anderson fan.
