Is it possible to only see one movie by this man and have him be one of my favorite directors?

The Thin Red Line is very underrated and one of my favorite films. Did anyone see New World? The only thing that has turned me off is that Collin Farell is in it, so it has kept me from viewing it

I've seen Badlands, his first feature. It's a pretty good film, and apparently Martin Sheen's favorite out of all the roles that he had.

Pfft. Obviously Sheen has forgotten about his work in Spawn.

Malick is a bad ass, but goddamn, The New World sucked. it took me 4 sittings to get through this thing. probably would have been infinitely better if colin farrell wasn't in it

I didn't care for TTRL the first time I saw it, but I wasn't prepared for it, and I had never seen a a TM film before. I've seen it a few times since, and I really, really like it now. Great performances all around, and it's more haunting than most war films.

I would rather have one hundred pins put in each eye than watch another Terrence malick movie.

Days of Heaven is great, I was kind of bored with The Thin Red Line.

It's not as great as his other films, but nontheless I'd recommend it. Colin Farell isn't too annoying

But if you haven't seen any other of his films you should check out Badlands before New World.

While I think he's talented, he's overrated. In my opinion, he just doesn't have a grasp on film story vs. film visuals. He always excels at the latter, but pretty much stinks at the former.

I think he used visuals to tell the story pretty effectively in Thin Red Line. Not so much in The New World, though. Haven't seen Badlands.

His visuals in TTRL made sense to me. War is a crime against nature. And the subplots of course were the different characters in the film. Each character had a unique way with dealing with life, death, and war. I liked it a lot.

I would agree that he used visuals to set a really great tone for the movie's theme, but no so much for the story. I love TTRL, so this is a small complaint. But Days of Heaven was just crap if not for the visuals.

I have just watched "Badlands" for the first time tonight. I loved it.

Part of me likes it better than "Days of Heaven" and "TTRL", but I ultimatley know I'll like the other two better.

Martin Sheen was amazing.

There are two, I repeat, TWO new Malick pictures in the making. One in post production (with Affleck and Mcadams) and one filming called Lawless starring Bale, Rooney Mara, and Ryan Gosling.

I'm freaking out right now. What's he doing? He needs to slow down.
