'Star Wars' Films To Be Rereleased In 3-D Published: September 29, 2010 by The Associated Press
May the force be in 3-D.
Lucasfilm announced Wednesday that the "Star Wars" films will be converted into 3-D and rereleased theatrically. All six films of the saga, beginning with episode one, "The Phantom Menace," and concluding with episode six, "Return of the Jedi," are expected to be released in theaters in 2012.
Lucasfilm and distributor Twentieth Century Fox have not yet set a release date. Industrial Light & Magic is supervising the conversion process, which it promises will be "cutting edge." Many previous conversions of films shot in 2-D, such as "Clash of the Titans," have drawn criticism for cheapening 3-D.
John Knoll, visual effects supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic said a proper conversion to 3-D "is a matter of taking the time and getting it right." [Copyright 2010 The Associated Press]

Not a fan. Stop working on these and get the Blu Ray box set out before next Christmas. Not going to lie though, I will probably see a few of these in theatres.

What is stupid is that they're Phantom Menace first, and if box office warrants, each one every year after that. Which mean the best films in the series won't hit until 2015 and 2016.

How about they just do the main battle sequences and the pod race scene and release it as a 90 minute 3D wankfest? I really can't see any logical why a person would want to sit through 6 hours of Jar Jar's spittle rendered in stunning 3D. And honestly, is there anyone out there who would go see these movies that isn't already familiar with the storyline anyways?

Things which could potentially fucking rock in 3d....The trench run in a new hope. The battle of hoth. The Dagobah sequence. Luke&Vader's lightsaber showdown. The asteroid sequence. Luke in the rancor pit. The space battle in jedi.
I think it could be cool but releasing them in chronological sequence is a crazy stupid idea. Itll tank and well never get to the originals.

Instead of re-re-releasing Star Wars again, why doesn't Lucas work on Episodes 7, 8, and 9? He should be ashamed of the shit that was the Prequel Trilogy, and yearn to redeem himself and salvage the good that is left in Star Wars.
