Isn't the show off on a wildly different path than the comics?

Is the other thread a huge mess of spoilers. I don't really mind spoiling the show for myself (I've seen the comic), but I'm gonna be pissed if I do that and then can't get it cleaned up.

It's amazing the show did not cast tyreese before season 2. If you had a good african american actor playing him, it would have made the first part of season 2 so much better. He plays such a pivitol roll in the first 24 issues of the comic.
That shit was crazy, one of the most brutal comic book deaths I have ever seen. This guy looks like he is gonna make the governor look like Mickey Mouse.
