I agree about the characters, but I don't think the fact that they're shitty people makes the show terrible.
That's pretty much the point of the show, "this is how bad these people are." people don't watch shows like weeds for the morality.
I actually think the characters on Weeds are pretty likable, compared to Mad Men or Breaking Bad. But yeah. People being nice and good with thoughtful, informed ideas about their role in society doesn't make for good tv.

With Mad Men you know what you're getting. They're assholeness is what you come to watch.
It seems to me that HBO is shooting this in a way that makes the audience want to be sympathetic of all the bulshit they do. Even the satire in it seems to be more of a "woe as me" as opposed to, don't you hate these bitches?

That is the exact opposite of what I'm getting from it. I hate Hannah for taking shit from a worthless guy. I hate marnie for being a cunt. I hate Jessa for being an idiot and acting like she's worldly and a free spirit. I don't hate shoshana because she's innocent. The thing is, I have known every one of these people in the real world and that's why I like it.

i like this show because it makes me laugh. i'm not black, so i'm not offended by the lack of black people in it. tyler perry's work doesn't offend me either. i just don't watch it because it's all about black people. and like i said, i'm not black. i do not, however, think tyler perry is a racist.
i don't hate any of the characters on this tv show because they're tv characters. also, they make me laugh. i teach high school in real life and the kids i teach are a lot like these tv characters in that they don't know what the fuck they're doing and they're kind of douchey, but they're also funny and trying to figure themselves out.
i know it's not tv; it's hbo, but you guys should either watch it because you enjoy it or not watch it because it just makes you angrier than you presumably already are.

This pretty much sums up why I like it.

That's funny, this first thing I said to my wife after we watched the episode was, "finally a show that's just as good when it leaves NYC. Sex and the City and Mad Men can't even pull off what she just pulled off. I'm pretty sure 25 year olds aren't allowed to be this talented."
The writing, the directing and the acting all perfectly captured that awkward feeling of going home. I thought it was fantastic.
