I realize this thread has been made before - most likely several times - but I've been gone for a while and I want to get some bearings and what people like around here these days.
My vastly updated top 25:
1. The Fearless Vampire Killers 2. The Godfather 3. Lost In Translation 4. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou 5. Port of Shadows 6. A Clockwork Orange 7. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb 8. The Shining 9. 2001: A Space Odyssey 10. Black Narcissus 11. The Crazies 12. Fellini Satyricon 13. Dawn of the Dead 14. The Fountain 15. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 16. Man of the West 17. Gerry 18. Blowup 19. The Grapes of Death 20. The Darjeeling Limited 21. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 22. 49th Parallel 23. Punch-Drunk Love 24. High Tension 25. The Vikings
I already posted in a top 25 thread like this. And so did you Loath. Anyway, this is it. And "Jacob's Ladder" and "Unforgiven" probably cracked the list.
25. "Annie Hall" - Watched it for the first time late at night on Bravo. Nothing made me laugh so hard at 2 in the morning.
24. "Finding Neverland"- Some what of a chick flick, but I'll admit I had a lump in my throat. It got me good.
23. "Aviator"- A Scorsese film that I feel will be forgotten in 20 years, and I enjoyed every minute. A fast paced biography about a business man? Well, to me it was fast paced (Some thought it was boring...hmmm?)
22. "Jaws"- Grew up with the film. I'm still afraid of the ocean because of it.
21. "Exorcist"- Did you know this was the highest grossing picture before "Jaws" was released? And for a good reason. With my own personal spiritualist beliefs, I'm happy this brought religion back into peoples lives.
20. "French Connection"- Great crime thriller. I never thought I'd find a slow paced foot chase so exciting.
19. "Road to Perdition"- One of the most underrated films. Loved the atmosphere of the film, especially the beach house scene at the end.
18. "Goodfellas"- Who doesn't love this film? From the beginning to the very end it sucks you in.
17. "The Departed"- Best Picture winner of 2006 (I'm boldly saying it now), and I know many will consider "Goodfellas" better, but I couldn't help to notice that this film is as long as "Fellas", but seemed much shorter. Why? Because I was enjoying every second.
16. "Oridinary People"- So it seems like a Lifetime movie, fine, but I viewed this in the middle of the night, as i did with "Annie Hall", and it made me react the exact opposite. Plus, I felt like I identified with Timothy Hutton (Aside from the attempted suicide).
15. "Raging Bull"- Fourth and final appearence for Mr. Scorsese. Straight Shot editing (Cutting from frame to frame naturally) is the most used editing technique in film, but for some reason "Bull" just makes it look damn good (Shoonmaker you kick ass).
14. "Castaway"- The most underrated film of all time. A story so simple has so much underneath the surface. This film has as much meaning of spiritual growth as the most inspirational film "It's a Wonderful Life", and it didn't even make AFI's Top 100 Cheers list.
13. "The Thin Red Line"- Not a very talked about war film. Sure, it has its poetic imagery and dialouge that some people find annoying, but I feel it encompasses its own private mood and atmosphere. I enjoyed it.
12. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"- Greatest love story ever written (Kaufman), and the most creative.
11. "Schindlers List" - Inspirational film that deserves every Oscar it got. I find it hard to argue with all its accomplishments. Ralph Fiennes is fantastic.
10. "2001: A Space Odyssey"- A catharic experience. Should open up the minds to many people (If they can grasp their own interpretation of the film).
9. "Graduate"- Some people wonder why the film is on AFI's top 10 list of the all time greatest, and I wonder why it's on mine as well. I just really enjoy watching this film. "Sound of Silence" helps.
8. "Godfather II"- I almost put it in front of part I, but so many more memorable moments for me in part I.
7. "Godfather I"- See above.
6. "Mystic River"- Clint Eastwood can organize some well crafted films. The final shot of the sidewalk with the three kids names sums up the entire meaning of the film and its characters. It's great stuff.
5. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"- Well, I'm a paranormal buff, and this is the best film that depicts UFOs. The scene where the little boy gets abducted is one of my favorite scenes in film.
4. "All the Presidents Men"- I watched this with my brother when I was in middle school, and I didn't understand one damn thing, but for some reason it was never boring to me. I tried to understand it, as they were trying to understand and fit the pieces of the puzzle in the movie. Now I do understand it, but I'll say I enjoyed it more when I didn't understand it (Weird).
3. "Glory"- If you're not sitting in silence when this film finishes....I don't know something is wrong with you.
2. "Saving Private Ryan"- No the opening sequence is not the only good part of this film. The story is simple, yes, but like "Castaway", there is more under the surface.
1. "Shawshank Redemption"- I don't need to explain my reasoning. I'm sure you've heard plenty of rave reviews from every day people.

I can't order it. I had a hard enough time picking movies i'd actually re-watch multiple times. Nothing is the same after the first view, for me. Nothing special or unique on my list really. A few directors encompass a lot of my picks. I'm not big on old black and white movies generally, either. So my list is pretty uninspiring to film aficionados. I more of less wanted to see if I could list any movies I'd actively seek out to view multiple times. I don't see myself in a lot of movie characters nor am I overly emotional so I don't seem to get the same personal attachment to movies some people have. I do watch a lot of movies though lol.

Yeah, exactly. I just realized I forgot Mulholland Drive already. Suck it up and post boy! We'll loathe them in 5 minutes together.

I came very close to putting Zodiac and Jackie Brown on my list as well.
Gotta love a man who puts F13 Part 4 on his list.
As for Tenebre.
