10 best Director's of our time (Post 1980)
And their three best movies

1 Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs)
2 John Woo (The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, Face/Off)
3 Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Once Upon A Time In Mexico)
4 Michael Mann (HEAT, The Last of the Mohicans, Manhunter)
5 David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en, The Game)
6 Tony Scott (True Romance, Top Gun, Crimson Tide)
7 John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Thomas Crown Affair, Die Hard With A Vengeance)
8 Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back)
9 Peter Jackson (Dead–Alive, Heavenly Creatures, LOTR: The Two Towers)
10 James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator 2, Terminator)

10 ½ Seven Spielberg (JAWS, Minority Report, Jurassic Park)

I only added Spielberg so no one would go “What About Spielberg?” I loved JAWS, but for some reason his work seems too refined & processed & perfect.

Lets see your list !

How can you list Jaws if this is post 1980?

It makes me sad that I cannot list the all time greatest, Mr. Stanley Kubrick. :(

Oh well...

1. Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 2)
2. Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands)
3. David Fincher (Fight Club, Alien3, Panic Room)
4. The Coen Bros. (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Fargo, The Big Lebowski)
5. James Cameron (Aliens, The Terminator, Terminator 2)
6. Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem For a Dream)
7. M. Night Shyamalan (Signs)
8. Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch)
9. Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Traffic)
10. Sofia Coppola (Lost In Translation)

2. - I Know Burton didn't technically direct TNBC, but whatever.
6. - He's only done two movies.
7. - While all his films were very well directed, I think Signs is the only one that's a really good film.)
8. - I have not seen Swept Away (I think that's what it's called) and don't plan to.
9. - Those were the only two I felt like listing.
10. - See 9.

Okay, wait, now are we doing directors that started their careers after 1980, or just the ones that did the best after 1980?

I'd put Wes Anderson at # 2,398 right after Chris Stokes (look it up)

Really? I thought he turned True Romance and Man On Fire into complete disastrous messes.

Wong Kar Wai (Chungking Express, Days of Being Wild, In the Mood for Love)
Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, The City of Lost Children)
Stanley Kubrick (The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut)
John Carpenter (Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing)
Steven Spielberg (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Minority Report, Jurassic Park)
Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Contact, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride)
James Cameron (Terminator 2, Aliens, The Abyss)
Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Aviator)
Tim Burton (Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Ed Wood, Beetlejuice)

*Okay, so I didn't only pick directors who started after 1980, but I only judged them based on their 1980-present movies. I know Kubrick only directed three movies from 1980 on, but they all rule, so he's on the list.

cause i don't know who directed half the movies i've seen. What i do know is that Scorcese and Stone are legends and are a shitload better than Shamalamadingdong and his crapfest movies.
