Yeah, except I'm talking about Star Trek: The Next Generation, not the Star Trek (2009) film.

Also, Star Wars is pretty inherently cheesy. That's part of the whole experience. Won't removing that run the risk of pissing off the hardcore fans?

I don't think star wars is cheesy at all. Not the originals. The prequels weren't cheesy they just had bad moments that wished they were cheesy. Nothing in it is as cheesy as someone like Spielberg could make it. American films these days seem ro have to have a syrupy sweet saccahrine ending which often clashes badly with the tone of the whole film. Ted is a great example of this. You know that left to his own devices Seth whatshisname would have ended that film his own way. Which would havebeen nothing like how the film ended. The studio got involved. Hopefully Disney will be hands off. And that won't happen in any galaxy, no matter how far away it is.

Maybe we're just using the word differently, or have different definitions, but I think Star Wars is totally cheesy. But it's meant to be. That's part of the charm of the overall charm. The films were (correct me if I'm wrong) inspired by "spaghetti westerns" and old action serials, right? Cheese is an inherent part of those (sub)genres. Empire might be the least cheesy. But, if it is, I think it's because of the focus on character more than plot.

The manipulative, saccharine thing is something different.

How anybody can watch Star Wars and say it's not cheesy is beyond me. It lives and breathes it. Basically every scene with Han and Princess Leia is pure cheese. Not to mention some of the overly simple "good vs. bad" themes. And then there is the dialog. But SW manages to balance it with the Dark Side and other mythological and "darker" moments.

We definitely have different definitions of cheese. The dialogue between Han and leia in emPire is one of the best things about the film. It's wonderful.

Ewoks weren't cheesy. Them winning was cheesy. But necessary. It needed the smallest to topple the biggest. Therell be a ROTJ amended edition soon enough that'll have an Avatar style ending no doubt.

I agree with you. It's awesome! The nerf herder/fuzzball scene. The scene where they kiss on the Falcon and C-3PO interrupts them. They're great, but they are incredibly cheesy.

For me, the lo-fi special effects of the original trilogy counteract the cheese. The problem with the new ones is that the effects, the CGI, it's all so polished as to make the whole thing look like a kids' cartoon. Add to that the false delivery of the lines, the saccharine romance.. yuk.

Shit. My whole template for being aloof yet romantic is shot to shit.

It's not cheesy!! I've been in relationships that have exactly that dialogue ongoing all the time. All those relationships are over bit that's not the point hehe.

I happen to like nice men
I'm nice men, what are you afraid of?

Brill!!

"Use the force Luke."

"I am your father!"

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Give me a line from Star Wars that isn't slightly cheesy and I'll give you a grope.

The cheese is there, and it makes it fun, but it if you were to identify the elements that made Star Wars gripping enough to grab hold of people the way it did, the cheese would be pretty far down on the list. It wouldn't even be the highest item to include the word "cheese" as part of the description....that would go to

I feel like... I just wanna clarify something here... I'm not using "cheesy" as criticism, here. I'm not saying the cheesiness detracts from the films, or makes them worse in any way. I just... I just feel like that's getting lost. Whatever the entire Star Wars saga has wrong with it, the cheesiness ain't it.

They're resurrecting Vader.
Writing begins for new 'Star Wars'

Michael Arndt has already started writing 'Star Wars: Episode VII'.

Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt

While details of the plot are not yet known, it has been reported that Darth Vader - who was played by David Prowse - will be brought back from the dead

A source told the Daily Express newspaper: "He's an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible.

"The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.

"This is science fiction remember. Darth Vader will rise from the ashes."

Meanwhile, 'Star Trek' director J.J. Abrams has ruled himself out of the running to take the helm of the movie, because he is such a big fan of the original film series.

Hmm. Theyd have to completely ignore the redemption of Darth Vader to bring him back then, yes? I cant imagine him coming back and being a good darth vader after Luke turned him prior to his death.
