Lucas's uninvolvement is a huge step in the right direction-- his terrible writing, stiff directing and limp grasp on dramatic pathos were the main reasons episodes 1, 2 and 3 sucked so hard. Disney have proven they can produce quality genre work, especially with their Marvel and Pixar subsidiaries. The whole thing feels a little pointless, but I'm at least cautiously optimistic.

It wasn't a dumb comment man. I don't think Lucas' uninvolvement (good thing) will necessarily translate to Disney's involvement being a good thing. Yes, the subsidiaries have done some great stuff but this isn't Pixar or Marvel, it looks to be run-of-the-mill Disney. None of the groundbreaking work is coming from them anymore since they all but abandoned traditional animation (not that Star Wars would be that anyway, obviously).
Edit: having said all that, there is Pirates of the Caribbean, I suppose.

Some of the creative ideas / visual elements / art direction in episode 2 was particularly awful. Sheesh. I'm not sure what a creative director does but it's got to be something to do with all of that.

And it just means Lucasfilm and all at Skywalker ranch's production crew are still gonna be involved. Theyll make the whole thing in bad cgi like the last one. It needs new blood top to bottom.

This. Absolutely this. The new films were far too shiny and CGI'd and green screened. And none of it was very good. I want puppets / suits / real locations.

Its amazing that a Sci Fi movie shot in 1977 looked way more realistic than a Sci Fi movie shot in 2004 or whatever....

Humiliation: George Lucas
Fuck yeah.
Same with Jurassic Park. The first film, imo, looks perfect to this day. It had the greatest mix of CGI and animatronics of any film ever. The second two films looked increasingly worse.

Kinda was.

Did I say that? I just said that it was a step in the right direction and the knee-jerk "this won't be good because it's Disney" reaction is silly.

1- What is "run-of-the-mill Disney", exactly? 2- Where in the article do they mention which production company would work on the new Star Wars? I don't see anything about it there.

You're thinking of Disney Animation Studios... another Disney subsidiary.

Which is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer films and merely distributed by Disney.
There are dozens of reasons why this new batch of Star Wars movies could potentially suck, but Disney's involvement is far from the obvious one. "Disney" is a name that's emblazoned on the credits of thousands and thousands of movies across dozens of genres and works of varying quality. Suggesting their ownership of the brand is the guaranteed death knell to a franchise that's been well past its prime for the last 15 years is like saying "the reason that crusty old hot dog in moldy bread tastes like a cat's asshole is because you put mustard on it."

Fair points, Jorge. It's just that when I look back at the amount of films with the name 'Disney' attached that I like, it's not very many. I don't think. I could be proven wrong.
As far as how flippant (and therefore inaccurate) my comment was, I'm kind of in that mood.

Well I admire his accuracy, but I'm gonna kill more people and generally cause more kickass damage with my anger and flippancy. I am the Hulk to his Hawkeye.
