Hey guys, I recently purchased a real nice digital camera and I want to learn how to use it to its full capabilities. I have a general idea about aperature and shutter speed. Do any of you know of a specific book that I could learn from? Maybe something you'd call the bible of photography?

What are you using? Also, what kind of lenses?
I'm not sure I have a specific recommendation, I just taught myself.

I don't know of a good photography bible, but these links have a ton of great information:

This is the best resource on the net if you ever need to pick out a camera. But he's already got one :)

My girlfriend got me these two for christmas. I'm working through the first one now and it has been a big help. For the most part it explains the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and all that good stuff. I would highly recommend it.
The only drawback is that often times these books are made with a completely manual camera in mind, so sometimes you may find that they talk about a feature that your camera doesn't have (especially with a new digital camera)...but it's still good to understand.

check out the color option thing. on the dial, switch it to the one that looks like a tube of paint. on the menu on the left side of the lcd, scroll down to the tube of paint and then scroll over to the one that says "color accent." then hit menu and close in on a color you want to isolate with the white box in the center of the screen. then hold down the left button (surrounding the func set button in the center) to capture the color.

by doing this, your pictures will only display that one color (and it's various shades), making all other colors black and white. fucking cool function.

I've had 2 Canons and they both sucked the ass out of a blackhole when taking pictures at night. Daytime, they're fabulous.
