i this came out pretty well, g_v.

corky: attic music--very cool. i love the lighting in this photo. the b&w and the overall retro look makes this an excellent example of the promt and the best of the lot so far.
pjrocksmysocks: house party--the blur, the lighting, and the angle gives this photo a feeling of old memory, but the subject (the kid at the table) is not all that intersting.
youaregiventofly: days gone by--nice close shot of the calendar, and the handwriting/notations are visually intersting. but it seems to need something else...
sherpahigh: this content of this photo is great...speedometer on insane and the gas gauge on fumes, but the composition is not all that great. i suppose if i were driving 108 mph on no gas, i would not be paying much attention to my composition. try to make this black and white or fuck with the contrast/saturation some. i usually don't like doctored photos, but this one screams out for help.
g_v: swimming pool in october: very nice shot, you captured texture, reflection and a soft sway all at teh same time. it does not really capture the prompt for me, but i could how it would for others.
MF: this shot has great color, mad sunset, dude! but the subject is a little blah. i love the palm trees, but the utility poles are distracting to me.
stuzzo: i so struggle with concert photos, and i almost used one for my entry...the way you capture the lasers is really nice. the one guy in white who stands out because he has a spotlight on him detracts a bit as he is so off center and he stands out so sharply, where the rest of the photo is sort of soft/fuzzy/surreal.
me: homeless bible-- I took this photo in a park in philly. the day before there had been a big gathering of homeless sorts in this park. i snapped the shot because i was wondering where the bible had come from and why it was left there on the ground. so my photo was meant to evoke a memory of something forgotten, left behind. but i decided that the photo just does not hold a lot of visual appeal, i wish the grass had been greener or some other sort of color contrast going on. i give myself a meh.
okay, i'll get to the rest later...gotta get something done today.

Thanks for the input. My goal for that picture was an exercise in color and I was less concerned with composition, in fact I took about a dozen shots before I got the color the way I wanted it. As for the subject, it could have been anything really, i just happened to be staring at a palm tree when I walked outside and it was the most visually interesting thing around.
*also in regards to sherpahigh's photo, that car is actually travelling at 108 km/h, or around 70 mph....which is usually the speed limit on the highway. 108 mph would be insane

As MF pointed out, the speedo's reading 108 km/h which was just slightly under the speed limit where we were.
There's actually a good story relating to the photo. It was taken last Sept. Myself and 2 buddies had been out on the West coast for a week kayaking and camping having a blast. We had tickets to the upcoming pearl jam show in Calgary on Sunday and had timed the whole trip so that we'd get back on Sat. or Sunday. We were originally going to try and catch the Van. show but we missed our chance due to screwing around on the island too long and missing the ferry that could have gotten us to the show on time. Probably best for whoever we would have ended up sitting by as we hadn't had a shower in 4 or 5 days.
So after we'd missed the show start we decided to head for home. Since we had such a late start once on the mainland we decided to camp not too far out of Hope. I had mentioned we should top up the gas sometime earlier in the drive, but the driver at the time thought better of it. We did manage to stop to top up the beer supply and grab some dinner though. Then we found a nice spot on a utility road just off of the Coquihalla hwy. It was actually a really cool spot by the river and far enough away from the highway not to be disturbed by it, plus it was free (illegal).
Come Sat. morning we get back in the car and start heading East for Calgary. We made the guy who neglected to fill the tank drive again since this was all his doing. He was pretty confident we could make it to the next gas station. In his head I think he thought there was one before Merritt though, but there wasn't. So as the needle was getting lower and lower down to E myself and the other dude were discussing how we should kill time while the driver hiked into town to get gas. We decided on the easy going lie in the sun on a hillside approach with some left handed ciggerettes. We were actually looking forward to it so much he lit one of the ciggies a bit early so we could have a laugh watching the driver sweat bullets nearing empty.
That's when I took the photo. Between laughs and jokes from myself and the backseat. I think we were still 30 Km out of Merritt. Lucky for the driver it was mostly downhill from there. We actually passed a car on the side of the road about 2 km away from the gas station and saw a guy walking back to the car with a gas can. Somehow we managed to coast into the gas station and fill the car up. This was just after Katrina had hit and prices for gas in BC were around $1.20 per liter. My buddy said he'd never been so happy to see gas and he would have giddily paid $3.00 per liter at that point.
From there on till Calgary later that day we managed without too much trouble, though the guy in the backseat got his crack at driving just out of Calgary and aquired himself a speeding ticket. The next day we awoke to continue the party right up to the greatest show of the year... Pearl Jam in Calgary. It was the perfect end to a fantastic kayack/camping road trip. Good times all around.
Thanks for the tips though. I think I might play around with it a bit and then frame it up to give to the driver sometime in the future. It's not really much of a quality picture and the gas gauge might be on E, but it's stock full of good memories.

I think some good advice for everybody would be to actually show "memory" through composition and not through subject matter since that is too subjective. I've liked Corky's (although I would have prefered some darker tones) and Bacchanal's so far. MF's also looks great but doesn't capture the theme as much for me, personally.
