Well it has come to my attention that the voting must go, and i agree. I like the individual feedback some members have been giving, as can be seen in the latest prompt thread. for now i would like to put jim's idea into place...
as for choosing a prompt, i'll choose the first one. everyone will PM me their submission, and i will post each in the header post, that way anyone can view all the entries without having to work through pages of feedback. after a certain cutoff date i will choose my favorite. then that person will choose a prompt. for the new prompt, everyone will still PM me their submissions, and i will post them in the header, but whoever "won" the earlier prompt will now choose the "winner", and so forth and so on.
if this sounds satisfactory to everyone i will post a new prompt in a day or so.

yeah.
i'm still not particularly in love with this idea, but that's probably because i tend to think of a prompt as an exercise that's designed to get you thinking and as something that you can come back to whenever you're feeling a bit uninspired.
the way we've been doing it, and the way i assume we'll continue doing it, seems like a bit of a contest. the prompts are locked after the submission period has ended, which means i can't go back and bump it to post a picture later. people are only allowed to post one picture because someone has to win the thread. for the tactile prompt, i took a series of pictures, but posting a new thread to show off a picture of canvas and rubber seems pretty worthless.
i don't know. i'm really all in favour of doing prompts. i love photography, and sometimes, i need to be kicked in the ass a bit. i'd just rather we did it like we used to do the writing prompts: someone (usually brian) would post the prompt and the thread would be open forever. i think we could all pm you prompt ideas if you don't feel like putting them up forever or we could sign up for weeks.
i dunno. i suppose it doesn't really matter anyway, since i'm going to do them either way.

as long as anyone PMs me their ideas....i'll post 'em and bump the thread, i forgot to mention that i dont plan on asking for any locks in the future....those locks were only so that people would stop submitting and start voting, but now that theres no poll or voting, theres no need for locks.

i'm not trying to be difficult, but i honestly don't get it.
ok....everyone will send me their submissions so i can post them on the first post of the topic, that way the topic stays neat, clean, and user friendly. if certain prompts become popular....we dont want everyone having to page through 10 or 12 pages just to see all the pictures. if all the pictures are in one spot it makes it easier for people to view them, and it makes it easier for those of us who would like to leave feedback. i'm doing the whole PM thing so that the thread ends up looking like this...
http://theskyiscrape.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... 638#856638 ...but without the poll. and yes you can have multiple submissions.

just let everyone post their own photos. the only thing the person starting the prompt should have to do is select the topic and that's it. (except for posting their picture and doing critiques) they shouldn't have to constantly watch the thread, just post the topic and let it go...
there's no need to turn this into a huge competition. of course, we need some way to mix up the person who is selecting the topics. so, either use the idea that i suggested or just pick a random person who posted in the previous thread. doing that would limit the amount of competition.
it seems like we're putting far too much thought into this whole selection process and we should just go ahead with the prompts.
I dunno, I really liked it the way it was going basically. Everyone posting hte pictures in the same thread and then voting or crituiquing or whatever. Whoever made the thread could pick the winner for all i care.

Dan, do you kiddo and deanna want to sort something out amongst yourselves and report back with a plan?
after some cosideration...i think we'll just do it jim's way. someone post a prompt, and then leaves it open for everyone to post their own ideas. no need for PMs or anything.

I don't understand. Why did this need to be changed? Go back to the old way. Now we're catering to just one person. It's still a contest, and I don't like the road it goes down.

Why does it need to be a contest? Just have a theme and post pictures for chrissakes. No one's tender feelings get bruised.
Exactly. As the person who implemented this in the first place, it was brought to my attention that it felt too much like a contest, and I agreed. I didn't intend for this to become a contest, so I changed the format. I wasn't catering to anyone in particular.
