I figured i might as well share some wisdom, as i'm sure at least one other person on the forum uses photoshop. My knowledge mostly deals with photomanipulation.
Compensating for too much flash:
-open the overflashed photo and press control-j (or command-j for mac users) to copy the layer
-change the blending mode to multiply to bring out some of the original data.
-if it's still not enough, you can then duplicate layer 1, and adjust the opacity to the amount you need.
straightening crooked photos
-open your crooked picture and get the measure tool out (it's behind the eyedropper, so click and hold it for a second, then select the ruler)
-find something level in your photo, Things like shelves and doors work well indoors, and drag the mouse across it. don't worry about memorizing the angle, because photoshop does it for you. hooray (:
-click image > rotate canvas > arbitrary. Notice that the angle is already put into your box. It even knows which way to rotate it. Now click OK
-you may have to re-crop the photo to take out the extra white space.
