It's a strange take on a car accident.

Smile

The pallid eyes
Of a passersby crumble
Like the ends of
Discarded chalk.

A child’s frown
Is given shape
In the black night
By sparks of
Engine light.

With a hiss,
A Stream of engine oil,
Like the blood from an animal in the final throes of life,
Seeps onto the Pavement

A morose, angular apparition
With fingers as thin as gnarled bone,
Filters through twisted metal, and shattered glass,
Like a vagabond lost in annals of Roman antiquity

A woman, swaying
In a crushed, splintered driver side door
Screams in the eruption
Of yellow firelight,

And her yelling yields,
Suddenly aware of the coming Shade.
As a child is spared.

Hmm... I like it, but there is something keeping me from really, really enjoying it. Interesting what can inspire us.
