i wrote this for my mom's card just now. my mom and i have a pretty strained relationship, and we fight a lot, but she means the world to me. i just read it again and it makes me well up...

dear mom,

i cant thank you enough for all the things youve done for me, and to be honest, i dont thank you enough. im sorry that i can be (among other things) unrelentingly stubborn and annoying sometimes. i love you and dad and paige so much, and im thankful for every day we get to spend together. i know i dont communicate those feelings to you very well most of the time, so i hope this will serve as a reminder that your son loves you and will always be there for you. happy mothers day, Mom.

love, matt

Soo sweet! Guys who can be smooth around the edges, and are not afraid of their feelings.. are a treasure. :-)

For my mom's 50th birthday, I got her an 80th birthday card and wrote "The cruel specter of death haunts your every hour."
