Nickels and Dimes MP3:
Nickels and Dimes Lyrics
If you see my baby Tell her I'm fine Tell her I'm fine
If you see my baby Tell her I'm fine Tell her I'm fine
I miss her strong cups of coffee The cheap bottles of wine And what they led to in time I miss our walks down to the river Her hand brushin mine The way we'd straddle the line
Tell her don't come lookin for me That man has died The man she knew has died
The clouds been weeping for weeks now Made a sponge of my mind It'll drown me in time So I'm heading west to California Got the sun in my eyes And redemption to find
I'll take my songs to San Francisco Down on Mason and Pine I'll play for nickels and dimes Yes, with my eyes closed on that corner I'll play for my life I'll play to survive
If you see my baby Tell her I've died The man she knew has died If you see my baby Tell her I've died Tell her I've died

Very nice tune! Great vocal delivery and harmonies. Are they all you? The lyrics are simple and understated and convey their message very effectively. These were my favourite; So I'm heading west to California Got the sun in my eyes And redemption to find
Really nice song - keep up the good work!

Thanks for sending this to me. Sorry I didn't get a chance to listen until now. This is good!
These lines are probably my fave:
I miss her strong cups of coffee The cheap bottles of wine And what they led to in time
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I like that part you referenced too. It's one of a few parts of the song that is autobiographical, and it brings me back to that period of time whenever I sing it.

Thank you! The harmonies are all me. There are 3 part harmonies on the verses and then I put 3 part falsetto "oohs and ahhs" in the beginning and the end. Thanks a lot for listening.

Do you listen to Greg Brown and/or Lucinda Williams?
And you always work alone composing songs, right?
I don't think I've really heard either of them but I'll check them out. And yeah, the songs you've heard have all been written exclusively by me. My cousin has a reggae band in Philadelphia and I write/sing lead vocals on a few of their songs too.

It's just that my favorite bit of this song reminds me of those two artists. They are great and underrated (Greg especially). Let me know if you want me to hook you up with anything.
As for my asking about your music, I do so because I have friends who have a band in San Diego. I don't know that they are looking to collaborate with anyone new, or that you are, but if so I can get you guys together I'm sure.

Yeah hook me up with one or two of your favorite songs by those artists. I'd like to check them out.
I enjoy any opportunity to jam with other musicians and I'm completely bandless in CA, so that would be awesome if you could get me in touch with your friends. I'd really appreciate it. What kind of music o they play? Do they have a myspace?

Will do!
Awesome. I'll contact them about it. They are a brother and sister with a band. Both are blind actually. At one time I believe Sony was looking to sign them but didn't. Great people, great musicians. Cory is the lead singer, guitarist, songwriter, etc. Very talented. Laura plays drums. I met both because of Bruce Springsteen. He's their favorite artist, but they enjoy a lot. Classic rock being their favorite music. But who knows. Maybe you guys could open up new avenues for each other. Here is Cory's myspace: http://www.myspace.com/corywilkins
