^ my first cast sterling silver ingot I'm learning to make 3 pieces of jewelry in the next 4 weeks (already 2 weeks into the class), using sterling silver (.925), fine silver (.999), semi-precious gemstones and minerals. My teacher learned from this guy; Charles Loloma... http://www.marthastruever.com/charles-loloma http://www.americanmastersofstone.com/B ... Loloma.htm I'll post more photos as I progress. |

I would love to jewelry but I don't have a creative bone in my body. In my head I do, it just never comes out right. |

It might just be that you aren't ready relinquish control over your sense of maintaining control. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Don't worry about being wrong or right in your creativity and see what might come of it. Now take a nice deep breath....exhale and listen.. |

I'll post some pics of a few more stones I've cut maybe tomorrow. maybe...hopefully *fingers crossed* I'll have a sterling silver pendant finished by the end of next Tuesday. Dunno, though. My first lesson in soldering sheet to bezel and setting a stone I cut. Where I'm taking classes in silver smithing they have artist celebration/parties/gallery exhibits on the last Friday night of every month. Tonight's theme was Dia de los Muertos. Or Day of the Dead. I wish more of the jewelry artists had their stuff displayed in the gallery. Because there was some seriously beeeeeeautifully creative stuff in the studios tonight. Unfortunately, artists get a little sketchy when you take photos...so I had to be a bit sneaky tonight. I posted a lot more photos on my facebook page, but I'm only going to post a few here. If you want to see more, friend me. The artist used real mouse bones to incorporate into this piece. my favorite piece from tonight's exhibit: "Are We There Yet?" "Merskeleton" My teacher's piece. It's made of things that were once alive, but now dead as he said. Walrus tusk, coral, dinosaur bone, etc. Also this is an example of the type of jewelry work I'm learning. Altho, he designs big man sized jewelry. I'm not really into the big thick heavy gauge stuff. hahaha.. Another one of my teacher's pieces in his studio. Thats' a dinosaur bone and turquoise pendant. The beads are turquoise. He has another artist bead the necklaces for him. Skeletons in the closet! My second favorite piece from the exhibit tonight. Oil painting. It was amazing in detail. It jumped right off the canvas. Beautifully done. If I had had a crapload of cash on me I would have bought this one. |

I'm more than half finished with my pendant. The design was mostly freeform and made out of scrap silver pieces, like old jewelry, etc. See the ingot in the first post of this thread. That ingot is now the pendant. I'm not thrilled with the way the spirals look. If I had had more time (outside of class) I would have been a bit more picky about the detail. Next week I set my stones and stamp my hallmark on it. Which reminds me. I need to find a hallmark. I'm addicted to silver now. I love it almost as much as I looooove salami. (PS: if you have any scrap silver you would like to donate to me, PM me) |

I'll be making a ring and a bracelet next as part of my class. So see how I do on those first. lol.. The place I work (I'm working for my family for awhile) is setting up a shop. We have grinders, polishers, buffers, etc. So, I'll be able to do more once we get an acetylene torch, a rolling mill, and some other tools. |
