 obviously, everything is excellent. I really appreciate the life drawings though - your style is so fluid, even if you're supposedly rusty from not doing it the movement is fantastic (the first set from your original post is especially so, but the ones above are really great too.) makes me miss life drawing classes. Please post more. |

thanks, Im tweaking my process away from a contour based "draw what you see" approach to one thats more about gesture and rendering volume. the goal isnt to copy the model, but to use the model as a reference to inform your drawing (it helps to practice anatomy and simple shapes as well). I'm not concerned with an accurate likeness right now. I'm actually pretty excited about it. its a lot of fun. first one was 40 minutes, the second was 20, the others are 1 minute. the last one she was in this semi-transparent body sock thing. i thought it would be a waste of time but it was actually pretty cool. i wish i could have done some others, this one was kinda crude.

I really liked working in bursts of 20 minutes or so with life drawings. I'm not in possession of a tremendous amount of skill but 20 minutes was a good block of time to get to that point in a drawing where I began to feel like- oh look! I can tell what I'm drawing finally! do you have a medium you prefer for this kind of work? I loved working with charcoals - my lines could be super loose without looking sloppy i think. also, the one you have in the above post with the face on perspective and the model leaning back(bottom left) - really like that one a lot - even as a rough sketch it's very nice |

Just dont touch it on accident. These are on newsprint. Using nice paper causes me to get too precious and I want to do this constantly. Using newsprint forces me not to take it too seriously. |

the charcoal drawings I've done were all on newsprint - many just of the 20 minute variety- I've also used the paper used to fill empty space in shipping boxes - i think it's about the same quality and really great for charcoal. also, I always used the kneaded erasers as an alternate drawing tool. so much fun. thanks so much for posting these pictures- keep going. |
