some of the stuff was about my brothers addiction a few years ago. wish i could find it.

Poetry.com closed down. It was a famous scam / vanity publisher who didn't exist for anything other than to money-grab from the innocent masses who thought that they appreciated people's poetry. Good riddance to it.

Legitimate publishing isn't a scam. I don't think 'Life is a scam' is an excuse for business pretending to be interested in poetry and ripping people off. They were a corporation who didn't read everyone's work before accepting it, because they knew that people would fork out the money to buy the 'anthology' afterwards. They also organised fake 'prize givings' which they invited people to (because everyone was told they'd won). These people would pay for their extortionate ticket, travel and accomodation somewhere over the sea, get there, then find out there was no prize giving. 'Publishers' like this are criminal and I'm glad this one was stopped. You can blame people for being stupid, yes, but there's no harm in being glad that one less lying corporation exists. No one should have to pay for publication. If a publisher likes your work, they'll take it. If they don't, they won't. That's the way it always was. If a 'publisher' wants to charge you for getting your stuff published, ask yourself: is it your poetry they're interested in?

'The world is a scam' isn't an excuse.

Oh, and unfortunately writing (C) on your work will make no difference. You have immediate intellectual copyright because you wrote it; as long as you keep a record, that's enough. You can't officially copyright work unless you've paid for it. If you publish with a legitimate publisher, you'll retain copyright on your work. If you've published through Forward Press, unfortunately they've nicked your copyright. They have the rights to your work, and that's not really on.

Don't worry, it probably wasn't very good poetry anyway.
