This. Or when one hits one's thumb with one's hammer.

I'll say bollocks sometimes. But you have to be careful with a word like that. It's hard to pull off if you're American. It needs context and inflection and sincerity.

This was the dog's.

A Britishism I don't know!

But I'll start using it all the time. Thanks, Harmless.

My Dad is Scottish and cunt is his favourite swear word ever, and therefore it's also mine. He has this way of saying it which is so offhand but also emphasises the final consonant -- cunT -- that just gives the word SO much vehemence but also makes the object of scorn seem so insignificant at the same time. Brilliant.

Also, bollocks is a great word. It covers everything from a dropped fork at the dinner table, to a broken down car, to a flood which makes your kitchen unusable for a year.

Brilliant - there's another i use daily:
Wife: not tonight. Downton Abby is on.
Me: brilliant.

Everyone says "brilliant"! If it's a Britishism, it has effectively permeated into mainstream Amerispeak

This happens a lot when discussing soccer with fellow american fans. There is always someone who refers to a pass as "cheeky" ect.

Nah. Cheers has gotten popular but we know we're stilling it from across the pond when we say it. At least when we say it when we're not clanking glasses together.

You say something is "the dog's bollocks" if it's really, seriously awesome.

A lot of us just shorten it to "the dog's" as everyone knows what the other word is.

I have no idea why "the dog's bollocks" are supposed to be a good thing, but I suppose they are very useful and a source of great pride for the dog.

It's OK. Me and Mrs Harmless are both creepy to a lot of friends of ours on the Internet.
