Friday night I was minding my business, out for a little drunken stroll on Carbondale's infamous strip where all the bars are located, and where some of the most famous riots in college history ocurred in the last several decades. Its not the same as it used to be because the laws are stricter in town now, but its still filled with your assortment of college students, hippies, drunks, bums, homosexuals, etc.

So anyway I'm strolling down the strip with some friends of mine and as we walk past the bar some black guy comes up to me and starts asking if I have any money. Of course I say, "no man I'm broke thats why I'm leaving the fucking bar." Anyway he starts hassling me some more (and I should have walked away, but stayed out of curiousity as to what would happen). So anyway he drops his cigarette and tells me to pick it up. Of course I told him, "uhh, no" and walked away.

Now I'm sorry, but this is a regular occurrence in my college town. I've had friends who've been mugged outside of liquour stores, and I'm always being hassled by "brothers" whenever I'm out, usually its just begging, I haven't been threatened yet. But I'm really sick of that type of attitude, and very occasionally its from a white guy but almost never. I'm really sick of black people who think that they can just fuck over white people because of our racial histories, etc. I'm all for tolerance but black people just don't fucking show it, they can be rude as hell in all aspects of society. And I know NOT ALL people are like this, only like 1/2. So before you all stay how much of a biggot I am (you're more than welcome to), please take into mind my reasoning.

I was raised in a white neighborhood, went to a Catholic school with no black students, didn't have any black friends going up, but I was always taught and aware that rascism was wrong. But when I went to high school, I saw that most of these people (and a lot of white people as well) are just, to put it rather bluntly, worthless pieces of shit. Being lazy is one thing, but a lot of black people I've met are just incredibly disrespectful. I shouldn't have to walk out of the bar and deal with some asshole who wants "a couple dollars because I need to get my car back. The cops called me a nigger." Sorry, you're lying, and you're acting like one right now. No white people (especially politicians and the media) have the balls to say this. I have a few black friends who agree with me. The whole attitude coming out of the Civil Rights movement is completely gone; I was open to strictly non-rascist ideas after reading To Kill A Mockingbird, hearing about what happened to protestors in the south in gradeschool, etc. I don't know if it will ever change but other people, besides middle-class whites, need to pull their fucking weight too if they want "peace, love, and understanding."

The response from the board doesn't surprise me at all. I have this type of conversation with people all the time, but on a Pearl Jam message board? Fuck no. Apparently none of you have to deal with being hassled all the fucking time when you're out.

right i wouldnt know what its like walking on a street in detroit......people expeirence it all the time its all relative....you see "n*ggers" begging and half of em are bad and ungrateful and rude and whatever....i see people born into a society at a disadvantage and a problem that many of us want to ignore rather than solve. These, "n*ggers", you imply are a cause for a defected society when i can just as easily point the finger at suburban white people who with great ease can corrupt society with drugs and alcahol as oppossed to poverty and begging.

The fact of the matter is you are a bigot....moreso because you acknowledge yourself being in your own little bubble and instead of growing and learning and helping, you just increase sterotypes and add to the problem with this attitude and the excuses and logic you just described in the original post.

I'm not sure if it is. I have to agree with g_v here for the most part. Alot of black youth have been corrupt by this gangster lifestyle that they all have been taught o live by their peers. They think it's OK, if not necessary, to step all over anyone they can... especially white people. It gains them "respect."

Obviously this doesn't count for anybody... but god damn. I saw a kid the other day who couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old, wearing a g-unit shirt and a red doo-rag. 7 and 8 year old kids should NOT be listening to that kind of music... because it only teaches them to grow up, and act like the people I've described in the above paragraph.

Ah, and white kids don't suffer from the same kind of attitude issues? Please.
