So two of my really good friends that i've known since high school are getting married in september and they've asked me to sing "Throw Your Arms Around Me" at their wedding reception. Now the only time i really sing for other people is once and a while at a party when i bring my guitar out and we have a drunken singalong, but this is different. It's just gonna be me, my guitar and my mic stand in front of all my friends and a bunch of family members i've never met.
I kinda told them i'd do it, but i've been having second thoughts. I want to sing for them, but i don't think i have the best voice in the world, and i'm not sure if their families will "get" what i'm doing and it may not be something they're used to. There are gonna be like 100-200 freakin people there!
Plus i'm mortally afraid of fucking it up. I love to play and singing with a group at a party is cool, but singing by myself really isn't something i'm comfortable with. Should i go through with it or not?
You're better than you think. Seriously. Don't drink to much before you sing (maybe one or two to relax a bit) and you'll do great. They wouldn't have asked you to sing if you didn't have a great voice. Think about it? Would you want someone wailing a PJ song off key at YOUR wedding?

Everyone at the wedding will be drunk anyway.
I asked a friend of mine to play for an hour during the cocktails at my wedding reception. He did, and I'll always remember how cool it was for him to do.
life is about risk taking. don't let this one pass.

I had sang at a few weddings myself and was scared shit. I've always had a problem with stage fright. I had to sing Ave Maria in front of lots of people, accapella. Now that was some scary shit. The only way i was able to get through it was having a few strong drinks (the kind that makes your ears hot instantly), practice the song 100 times so you completely comfortable performing it, go on stage close your eyes or stare into space and start singing, it'll all work out from there. Even if you sucked people won't really notice and would think you were "the man" anyway.

i've got to sing at a wedding in two weeks, and i'm already dating the maid of honor, but you should try and bag two bridesmaids that night. i challenge you.
