So two of my really good friends that i've known since high school are getting married in september and they've asked me to sing "Throw Your Arms Around Me" at their wedding reception. Now the only time i really sing for other people is once and a while at a party when i bring my guitar out and we have a drunken singalong, but this is different. It's just gonna be me, my guitar and my mic stand in front of all my friends and a bunch of family members i've never met.
I kinda told them i'd do it, but i've been having second thoughts. I want to sing for them, but i don't think i have the best voice in the world, and i'm not sure if their families will "get" what i'm doing and it may not be something they're used to. There are gonna be like 100-200 freakin people there! :?

Plus i'm mortally afraid of fucking it up. I love to play and singing with a group at a party is cool, but singing by myself really isn't something i'm comfortable with. Should i go through with it or not?

just don't go to the wedding. If your wife is cool, like mine, she'll let you go to Michigan.

You're better than you think. Seriously. Don't drink to much before you sing (maybe one or two to relax a bit) and you'll do great. They wouldn't have asked you to sing if you didn't have a great voice. Think about it? Would you want someone wailing a PJ song off key at YOUR wedding?

Everyone at the wedding will be drunk anyway.

I asked a friend of mine to play for an hour during the cocktails at my wedding reception. He did, and I'll always remember how cool it was for him to do.

holy shit, with everyone looking at you, the chances of forgetting the lyrics and fucking up your friends most treasured day in their life would suck

I had sang at a few weddings myself and was scared shit. I've always had a problem with stage fright. I had to sing Ave Maria in front of lots of people, accapella. Now that was some scary shit. The only way i was able to get through it was having a few strong drinks (the kind that makes your ears hot instantly), practice the song 100 times so you completely comfortable performing it, go on stage close your eyes or stare into space and start singing, it'll all work out from there. Even if you sucked people won't really notice and would think you were "the man" anyway.

exactly.

i've got to sing at a wedding in two weeks, and i'm already dating the maid of honor, but you should try and bag two bridesmaids that night. i challenge you.

Do it later in the evening, so you can be sure the alcohol has been properly absorbed.

And by then you'll have figured out who the cute single chicks are there, and sing right to them. Nothing better than spontaneous post-wedding coitus.

And make sure you come up with a meaningful number for the bride and groom during the line "I'll kiss you in # places".

And drink a glass of heavy cream right before you start.

And....

it's a very easy song to play, i've even butchered it a few times. you should learn it.

If i remember correctly its just E-A-B# (and then variations on that). It's pretty simple.

Oh and i probably won't be picking up any ladies at the wedding for 2 reasons:

1) I will likely know 99% of the 20-something single women there, and have probably known them since HS
2) My girlfriend will be accompanying me :?
