Lenoir-Rhyne officials pledge investigation of drinking video

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A videotape of young women urging each other to drink plastic cups full of vodka appears to show members of the Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team, and college officials pledged an investigation.
The film was posted in April on the Internet site YouTube.com by a person with the username "emistro," according to a report by WCNC-TV. The video was no longer on YouTube on Sunday night, though portions of the tape were shown in a report on the television station's own Web site.
A written statement from Lenoir-Rhyne administrators said the video "appears to show some members of the Women's Soccer Team engaged in behavior that may be a violation of the college's alcohol policy."
It said the college has begun an investigation.
The team's coach, Will Beddingfield, said the activity on the video, taken in what appears to be a dorm room, "obviously violated our policies".
"Since it happened on college property, it's an internal matter and that's how we're handling it," Beddingfield said.
He said players involved are being disciplined, though a number of the women who could be seen in the tape were on the field last week for the team's first scrimmage.
Players approached at the practice refused to comment to WCNC.
