Especially 3 of them.

My 26 year old friend just got her 3rd DUI and has yet to go to trial for the 2nd. She got 1 year probation, lost her license for 30 days, had to attend classes and a fine for her 1st offense. Anyone know just how f'd she is after getting 2 more? I know it's a horrible/dangerous/deadly crime and even worse that she's a multiple offender but I'm just wondering if anyone knows from there own or a friend's experience or even through your job.

1 shouldnt be looked down on too harshly. everybodys gone out and had 1-2 drinks and had it affect them a little more than they realize

but after that first time getting busted, anyone who doesnt have the good sense to NOT do it again deserves whatever the law gives them

Agreed 100%. I told her this over the past year, and I don't think it really sunk in until she had to spend a full day in prison last week. Now she is starting to see how bad her actions were and how much the punishment is going to suck, deservingly so.

funny story-a buddy of mine got 2 dui's last year...in a 3 day span. i shit you not, the kid is an idiot. well the second time he told the cop he wanted to kill himself and kept hitting his head on the doors in the cop car. the cops had to take him to the hospital b/c he was acting so crazy. his plan was to plead insanity at court and instead of going to jail for 6 months or so he was gonna go to a nut house or rehab.

it sounded like a great plan, until he got arrested again for stealing $ from his job. he works at a bank and now has federal charges against him. so when you think about what a bad spot your friend is in, remember, at least she's not in the same boat as my friend

sounds about right. three strikes is bad news. no more car, and no more licence. i'm not sure, but that might even be permanent. got a couple of buddies with two strikes, and they still haven't learned. i am protesting their behaviour by not hanging out with them when and if they are drinking and planning to drive, plus they are not allowed to drink at my home unless they give up the keys and stay the night.

If I hear any of my friends or even someone at the party I don't know, is planning to drive even thought they've been drinking, I go over to them, tell them if they do it, I'll call the cops.
Most of the times they end up not doing it, but a few times they've did anyway, and I've called.
Drunk driving is so fucking stupid and you don't just risk your own life, but the life of others too. Hence why I don't give a fuck if they'll never speak to me again because I called the cops. If they want to kill themselves, fine, but don't take others with you.

I fucking hate people who drive when they've been drinking. I don't even touch a car key if I had one beer.

DUI - You Can't Afford It

....unless you have a bunch of money.

I mean, really. What a stupid slogan. Shouldn't it be more along the lines of "Drunk Driving Kills"
Nope, everything is about money.

Not driving after one beer is stupid. Unless you have brain tumors.
People that bitch about this, are the same people that do that following when they're driving sober:

talk on the phone, eat, put on makeup, listen to loud music, don't pay attention, don't signal, drive too slow, drive too fast, drive tired, ETC. More people die every year from all this stupidity and laziness than drunk driving. Look it up. Oh that's right, there's no law against being fucking stupid. As long as you're sober, you can do whatever you want! Fuck this hypocrisy.

your friend is gonna hurt or kill someone soon..if she is a true friend, she needs your serious intervention here..maybe voluntary rehab would be a good start.

p.s. where does she live so i know to stay off those roads?

while all those things are true, it doesn't mean drunk driving should be acceptable. i think cops need more leverage to stop people who they see aren't paying attention while driving; i can't see any other way to deal with the problem you mentioned; arresting stupid drivers? that would be awesome cuz the roads would be totally clear but don't see it happening

Good post but I take "afford" to mean more than monetary in the slogan. For example, can u afford what's gonna happen to someone's kids after you take their parents live's with your car? (maybe a weak example)

It should be acceptable under certain conditions. Everyone's body is different. This is what people fail to realize.
I was pulled over twice after drinking. One time I had four tall boys (in the course of about 4 hours) I was feeling good. Cops let me go though because they realized I was fine. Another time at a checkpoint I had about 7 beers in the course of 3 or 4 hours, and they gave me a breathalizer, and said I was close. REAL close. But they couldn't give me a ticket because I wasn't at the right number. It's stupid. That means even though I was ok, and passed all their tests, if my number was up just a tad more I would have been in trouble. Also, it's stupid because if it was really that close, then should they really have let me go? It's a bunch of hypocrisy and double standards and idiocracy that I just can't take. You just can't set the same limit for every person. I drive no different after a 6 pack then I do sober. In fact I even drive better sometimes, because I'm more careful since I've got booze on my breath and in my system. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble that thinks driving after a couple beers is totally wrong. Not my fault you can't handle your shit.

My dad has gotten two DUI's and three driving while suspended.
He lost is his license for six years.
Was sentenced to jail for eight months, but was able to do house arrest and work release for most of it.
Not to mention the drug/alcohol classes he had to take, fines - not sure the total amount after all of it, plus court/attorney fees on top of it and having his kids shuttle him all over since he didn't have his license. Great role model, dad.
