I think fission is probably responsible for more radiation:

But radiation in general is probably more a result of simple radioactive decay, where the nuclear is just unstable and loses particles.

In reference to the sun, my good man. If the Sun contains any uranium at this point, we are in serious trouble. Also, of note: Hydrogen itself cannot 'fiss'. Radiation in this case being the heat he refers to.
