What an ingenius way to make money. . .!

There's not much around here by way of fast food (a blessing more than a curse. lol), but there's a sweet Genardi's around the corner with fresh sushi, a soup bar, and a salad bar.

I. Love. Salad. Bars. But, OMG supermarket ones are expensive. This one is $4.99 a lb, and then they load it up w/ lots of "heavy" goodies like potato salad, cooked pasta, a really yummy chicken salad. . . etc. My salad today cost me $6.28. Greens, Pasta, Spinach, Mini Corn Cobs, Olives, Feta Cheese, Broccoli, Bacon Bits, w/ a scoop of chicken salad and a scoop of potato salad.

The one at the Giant near my house is a dollar less a lb, but they also have cool stuff like stuffed grape leaves and fruity gooey desserts.

Anyone else fall into this trap as much as I do?

At least it's still cheaper than Saladworks!

I'm from Canada, our version of salad is maple leaves tossed with pinecones.

I don't eat salad, but I often get something from grocery stores' hot bars. Almost all of them have mac n cheese, which is one of my favorite dishes.

wait, people actually pay for salads?

you guys realize that you can buy all the stuff you want to put in a salad for like a third of what you pay at a salad bar, right?

also, why in God's name would I want to eat everyone else's snot, spit, dirt, germs, bacteria, and feces knowing how poor most people's personal hygiene is? yeah, uh, no thanks.

I used to do this a lot at superfresh around my college break job. First time I did it I think I loaded up like 5 pounds and ended up paying like 10 bucks

no chance I even ate half

I've gotten sick from fast food, but never from salad bar food. I guess I'm just not a germaphobe. *shrugs*

The salad bar at my grocer has a guard in which it's almost uncomfortable to get at the salad stuff given the angle of the guard itself, so I'm quite satisfied that nothing that comes out of ones mouth has touched said stuffs.
Now, contrarily, this just went down a couple days ago at a very well known fast food place:
Quote:
Hundreds of people looking for a hepatitis A vaccination after a food handler at a local McDonald's was confirmed to have the infectious disease

And I won't go into what friends of mine have done when they used to work at fast food joints.

I'll have a salad, to go..

I don't eat fast food anymore either. First it makes me ill, and second, if it doesn't make me ill upon first eating it, it will likely kill me by heart attack later on.

and as far as salad bar salads are concerned- I'm of the opinion that they aren't all that healthy for you either, the toppings and add ons are usually fairly unhealthy (other than vegetables) and I don't see the point in going through whatever additional hassles built into a salad bar to help avoid bacteria etc- to me, it makes way more sense to go to the grocery store, buy my ingedients for about 8 bucks total, wash them to my own satisfaction, make my own salad, and save the 30 bucks I'd have spent on getting a 6 dollar salad everyday at lunch for something more enjoyable- like pot. hah.
