In most families, during the course of growing up you are told the stories of things that you said of did as a young child that you do not really remember doing. Apparently, while on a family vacation through Florida we stopped at this information center in the Everglades. For some reason that had an artificial display of animals and the one display was a gorilla. According to both of my parents (I asked my mother separate of being told this by my dad) I turned to a black man looking at the same display as me and said, "Hey, he kinda looks like you." I was only 4 or 5 at the time.

but you wouldn't compare, to his face, a black man to a gorilla nowadays?
only if i wanted to get killed or receive a severe beating, but why would i want that, yanno?
that was my next question. would you only abstain from doing so out of concern for your own physical well-being, or because you consider it racist and in poor from?

When I was a kid, my dad and uncle used to play a football board game called Paydirt. I was just a kid, and didn't know how to play, but I'd always asked my dad if I could roll the dice now and then. According to him and my uncle, right before I would roll the dice, I would say "Shit Poo Poo!" right before I rolled them.
To this day my uncle's nickname for me is Poo.

physical well-being. Comparing someone to what animal they look like is not race related to me. I call a kid at work "spider monkey" because he in reminded me of a spider monkey and this kid is just an italian kid like me. Though, over the course of time comparing a black man to a gorilla has gained racist meaning.

My wife's mother tells a story about taking her to a department store when she was 2 or 3 and getting on an elevator with a large black man and my wife said, "Mommy look! A BEAR!!!"
