so where should i go skiing this winter? out west isnt an option just yet. i know its much better and "you havent skiied til you've been out west" but that will be a trip for another year.

anyway, im a decent skiier. nothing amazing.im at the upper range of intermediate/lower advanced. but that is on west virginia mountains. dont know if that matters.

so this year, im looking at vermont, etc; since i hear that its a lot better up there compared to virginia/west virginia where ive skiied before.

what are some good spots you guys recommend? like i said, im intermediate level, but my girl is a beginner, so it has to be kinda balanced.

If I was out East I'd ski at Jay Peak. Thankfully, I'm out West and don't have to do that. But Jay Peak apparently gets the best snow out of all the Eastern resorts.

jay peak is as far north in vt as you can get and usually windy...mt snow or okemo are great for southern vt...a little higher up id say stowe or killington...they all have a great variety of terrain and cost around 70-75 dollars on the weekends...

i just got new skis today from ebay and cant wait to get out and try them! shorter than im used too but im hoping it'll help with the bumps and in the trees!

now all we need is some SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I just looked into a bunch of the mountains listed in here and, well.... I'm really fucking happy I live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Yeah but all you got are the Broncos and Rockies.

I know the mountains here don't compare to the west, but we have a pretty good selection right in our backyard. Sunday River is my favorite fucking ski mountain ever. I could spend 5 days in a row there.

Yeah, i just got back from a trip to A-basin a couple of weeks ago and for only 2 runs open that was awesome

but damn i love western skiing...winter park and vail back in march were great even though after 6 inches of fresh pow at winter we got sunshine and 55 degree weather the rest of the week so vail was mashed taters but still better than anything here

I was in Colorado in February after all of those avalanches. Keystone, Vail and Breckenridge were amazing. It was my second time skiing, so I had to learn quick. I came back to Boone, and in comparison our ski mountains are pieces of shit!

Boone was the first place I learned to ski.

I'm trying to figure out how to balance a good mountain with price and distance from the airport I fly into. Which is looking like Boston just because flights to Boston appear to be cheaper than to any small market airport I've seen in the area.

i know, i know. theres a couple things: money and time. its gonna be like a quick turnaround vacation. like only take a friday and monday off from work, fly up thursday evening and fly back monday night. and when i go out west, i want to enjoy it. full week, no doubt about it. also, my lady friend has only skiied for a day and half in slushy conditions, so we both agree that to spend the money to go out there wouldnt be the best thing to do right now, since she still has to learn the basics now anyway. so her skiing on the east or west wont particularly matter since shes just trying to get comfortable.


but next winter, the plan is definetly to head out west.

Give Wachusette mountain a try. It's within Mass and it's good for beginners/intermediates.

never got to ski there but at one point my buddy lived 10 minutes away...we were always too stoned to go

how is it? ive been looking at their site, and it looks great for price and location, but the trail map seems to be pretty small. i mean you cant get real perspective from the map, so is it as small a mountain as it looks? does it typically get decent snow?

it looks really good for a beginner, but at the same time, i dont wanna be bored. kinda a catch-22.
