This might be super dorky but ever since I discovered Zach Condon and Beirut I've had an urge to pick up the Ukulele. Anyone here play one regularly?

I play marimba and concertina, so I'm twice the dork you are. I'd rather get a cigar box guitar, myself.

Hm. I've just never had the urge to play the guitar and be like every other college kid that plays shitty Crash Into Me covers. Just seems too cliche. I want to do something unique. It's about time I learn an instrument, about all I do is listen to music.

a real challenge would be to learn the guitar and do something unique with it

And ukes are cool. But concertina is cooler than flute, so....

I prefer guitar, honestly. But I would think you are only limited by your own imagination. I'm not very good on ukulele, partly because my fingers are too big. I learned a lot of songs when I was a kid (both of my parents are musicians) but I don't play regularly now and I have never tried writing songs on it. I prefer the fuller sound of guitar.
