December 4th. I think this is the earliest our Christmas Tree has ever been up at my house. though, now that we bought a fake one, it's much easier to do whenever you want....there's driving out to a farm and chopping one down, bringing it home, forcing it into a shitty tree stand, etc.

Every family has to do the REAL TREE thing for a few years, but changing to Fake Trees happens eventually.

when i was a kid it used to piss me off so bad that we had a fake tree (later i learned it was because of moms alergies) but the last 3 years having to go out and get a real one and pay some snotty punkass boy scout at the firehouse 40 bucks for it makes me want a fake one.

we got one on Sunday, which is our earliest ever too. But I take mine down Jan 1. my in laws think im nuts, but they leave theirs up until around February-March (out of sheer laziness)

We've always had a real tree on my side of the family. After Christmas every year we'd let the stock of the tree dry out for a few months then cut it up into usable chunks of wood and my dad and I would then make ornaments out of it, then my mom and sister would decorate the ornaments. Now after 15 or so years of this we've got a lot of really cool home made ornaments all made from previous years Christmas trees. It's been a great tradition and its one I plan on doing with my kids as well.

For me, a real tree's the only way to go.

Yeah, this is what happened. Last year was the first year we had the fake one. it killed me on the inside a little big

convo with my mom:
mom: "We're getting a fake tree this year."
me: "WHAT? Fake trees are terrible."
mom: "No, I saw this one at the store, it looks just like the real thing."
me: "Oh yeah? Does it smell like the real thing?"
mom: "I can buy a pine-scented candle."
me: :|

"Hey, it's a holiday! A time for joy and togetherness. But how can I make it more labor intensive?"
"You could put a tree in your living room."
"Badass."

i put it up the day after thanksgiving, and take it down sometime after my birthday, which is in the middle of february. it's a really, really pathetic fake tree, but it has seven or eight hundred lights on it, so it's awesome.

i've never had a real tree, and i don't mind. that just means i get to leave my tree up as long as i want.

around thanksgiving i had to endure a conversation of people discussing for a good 15 minutes when the appropriate time is to put it up and when to take it down.
