I've never bought a mattress before, but my wife and I are trying to find a king sized mattress for out bedroom.

We hit 3 different stores yesterday and not once did we lay on the same bed. Serta, Simmons, and Sealy make about 4000 different mattresses and not one is ever the same. Prices vary from $600 - $3500. It is fucking impossible to compare one deal to another or shop on-line.

What the fuck am I supposed to do? I think I'm going to stick with one I've laid on and get reamed by a store.

I went to this store called called Waterbeds 'N' Stuff on saturday. The place was divided right down the middle. On the left side was furniture stuff, beds, waterbeds, dressers, I think I saw some dining table sets maybe, but perfectly normal, you know? The left side was more or less a Spencers, with the added bonus of sex toys and bongs. It was a weird place.

My wife and I went through this about a year ago and after a couple of days we were frustrated as hell. Finally we stopped into a furniture store that was going out of business and happened to find one we really liked. Snapped that fucker up in a heartbeat.

This is all intentional so that you can't shop around and get a better deal. Retailers will only price match on identical items. Different models for different retailers is the only way around the price match scenario.
At the end of the day, the guts of the bed are the same, they just put a different tag on it when it is going to The Brick or Leons etc.
The only way to win is to know what you are looking for and shop for the features not the name or model.

How frivolous B. You should be handing this extra cash over to the government. Maybe some poor kid can get some healthcare from it.

I use to have one... very comfortable, but sucks to roll over in. It's like rolling over in sand or something. This was most annoying durring sexy time.

i found this out when i was shopping for mattresses a while back. they are the same, but for some reason they give them different names at different stores. the 600 dollar sealy is the same as the 600 dollar sealy at a different store, despite the different name. if you pay attention to the specs / details, you will realize its the same thing.

so go with a brand and a price range, ignore the different names.

i don't have these problems, but i got the most firm version, so perhaps yours was just a little too squishy?

anyway, it is not for everyone. i love mine, but i could see how getting stuck in one of those body groovse would be annoying.

I like a fairly firm mattress personally.

But my back is wrecked beyond repair at this point so it barely matters

The salesman recommended against that because we get hot when we sleep and that's supposed to be very bad for that. When the salesman recommends against the more expensive bed, I always listen.

Select Comfort, Sleep Number bed...

I like it. Does not feel like an air mattress at all. Plus it doesn't make you hot.

good call. the tempurpedic does retain heat. good in the NE winter, not as good in the summer...and since you live in NC, not so good at all.

another advertisement I'm brainwashed with. The message: good ventilation and being able to turn easily are important.

groetjes,
Mirella :)
