What's the point of buying these... anyone know, why not just get a hard pack so that they have less of a chance of breaking?

No shit. Just get rid of the soft pack altogether. It's useless.

Box FTW!!!

Soft packs have more of an old school James Dean thing going for them, though.

Sometimes I'll go into a store and see that they still have some of the old camels in the soft pack from when they changed over a year ago. Sometimes I buy one because the stale old style is still better than the new one.

That was the only thing I could think of. If I somehow in my life end up at a dive bar in New Mexico with Willie Nelson on the jukebox and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" on TV, a soft pack would be more appropriate.

Many companies are phasing out soft packs slowly as their clientele begins to die... being replaced by younger smokers that like the box ones more. The soft pack smokes are slightly longer, and fit better in vending machines and cigerette cases.

This man knows of what he speaks.

In March 1994, I took a road trip with 3 college friends around the South. As soon as we hit North Carolina, we went to one of those highway smoke shops, and I bought a carton of Marlboro Mediums soft pack for $7.17. The hard pack cost over $9. The carton was gone before we got back to school 6 days later. I should mention that we each bought a carton of smokes, so it's not like they were bumming mine all week. We were just completely abusing ourselves.

The biggest problem is the last 5-10 break in your pocket.

That's what shirt pockets are for, son.

What about the summer? I'm not wearing those t-shirts with the pocket like my dad did.

I once bought a soft pack and used it to fill my old, empty hard pack.
