Ok gang, my brother and my dog and I are moving and we have two choices for a new place. I like both of them, they're both 2Br/1B, and they're within probably five blocks of each other.
Place I: Duplex, sort of dingy inside but nothing shabby, bedrooms are a little small but will still work, has a cool fenced in area and would be a very nice chill spot. One street away from a major highway and pretty close to a major street that I take to the east side to see the little bro. No bills paid. $800 a month, $800 deposit, $300 pet deposit.
Place II: Apartment in an alright complex, newly renovated, nice faux-wood floors, rooms that are a little bigger, nicer kitchen area. Still close to the main artery to the east side, a little further from the highway, a little closer to my work and where I'll be going to school. Water, trash and cable are all free. $700 a month, $300 deposit, $500 pet deposit.
Tough decision, leaning towards the apartment since it'll be cheaper.

is it quiet? is there a high percentage of weirdo neighbors? (this one is really important to me) easy access to eateries and places to get day to day supplies? is it close to work? is it affordable?
That's pretty much it.

Austin is a cool city, so pretty much everything is close to get supplies. There are also always weirdoes but the complex is mostly hispanic families so there will probably be less there. Both places are probably equally quiet.
The real difference is the price which is why I'm leaning towards the apartment. It'll cost the same or less as where we live now and it's much nicer.

I agree, but what are you gonna do? I'm just really glad we found a place before we had to split up and move in with people. I would have missed my dog so bad. And my brother is cool too.
