What it is: The RM Interview Series is a way to get to know other members of the board and hopefully bring the community together a bit. Every few days or so, a new interview will start and an old interview will be locked and archived. Please try to keep this thread only about the person being interviewed. When it's your turn, you're welcome to talk about yourself as much as you want.
How it works: All questions and answers will stay in this stickied thread; all questions are optional however. When interest in the current person begins to die down, they will then choose (via PM) the next person to be interviewed. The person will also PM a mod to get the new interview started.
This is supposed to be fun! Hopefully there will be a mix of both serious and humorous questions (and answers!)

What do you do for a living?
work for the DoD as of now. i'm also taking a few more math classes to be a more competitive candidate for graduate education. i don't want to be a desk jockey for any longer than i have to and am really looking forward to being a student again.
i thought about culinary school for a while when i was younger, but ultimately decided to play it safe.

Are you in a serious relationship? Tell us about her.
yep, i'm engaged. what do you want to know about her? and are you just asking because you need a new face to stroke it to?
oh, and i proposed over a game of scrabble. true story.

Do you own any pets?

How are those gold coins working out/where do you think gold will be this time next year? 2 years?
gold (and silver) coins are working out brilliantly. i don't buy to take advantage of day-to-day, week-to-week, or month-to-month fluctuations. i'm not smart enough. i buy as a long term hedge against monetary uncertainty generally and what i view as the inevitable destruction of the dollar specifically.
2 years? no way to know. 25 years? thru the roof.

How many Pearl Jam concerts have you been to? What was your favorite?
hmmmmm...
nashville 2000, birmingham 2003, nashville 2003, atlanta 2003.
atlanta 2003 was the best. went with a bunch of friends, got pretty drunk, ended up at a waffle house in peachtree city, my friend overflowed the toilet at the girl's house we were staying at so we peaced out in the middle of the night....all in all, a good time was had by all.
oh, and the concert was pretty good.

Where did the username come from?
my first account, kthodos, had technical difficulty. for some reason the switch to the new board prevented me from logging in under that name. i sent notes to admins, but never heard anything. this wasn't a big deal in 2006/2007 because i was so busy teaching in philly, but when i started working for the gov't i needed some way to pass the time. i said screw it, and rearranged the letters in the first username.
oh, and it's actually a combination of letters of my first and last name.

Will you be my Facebook friend if I ever sign up for it?
sure.
my status updates are gold, friend. my favorite: "Kris has the lulz. Bristol (Palin) is in ur public skools, ignorin' ur abstinence-only education." someone could make A LOT of money by making a coffee table book of nothing but facebook status updates.
hey wait, didn't i ask you about prospective business ventures?

i wouldn't exactly call it "work." i have a job, but i do very little actual work.
one of my coworkers is fascinatingly stupid, though. she claims that "space is fake," she eats steamed broccoli for breakfast and lunch (there isn't much worse than having to smell microwaved broccoli at 7AM), she wears a "Justin Boots" camoflauged mesh hat at her cube...fuck, i could go on and on.
my feelings about her alternate between searing hatred, entertained fascination, and icy standoff-ishness. i'm thinking about creating a "coworkers" thread where we all post stories about ridiculous coworkers. i've got a feeling that it could be my GD moment in the sun.
living? yep. i'd never lived in a city proper before moving to philly. we lived in bella vista. for my money, bella vista/queens village/south philly is the best spot to be. philly has incredible restaurants everywhere, but south philly had my favorite spots (sabrinas, morning glory, new wave, salt & pepper, etc).
working? jury's still out. i taught middle school math/science and high school math in north philly as a member of teach for america. let's just say it was an interesting experience. regardless of how much i "enjoyed" the experience, i'm very, very glad i did it. and kids are farking hilarious.
