Just making a little extra cash at the school I work at. I have three big responsibilities and then I get payed:
1. Get to the gym at 7:30 and monitor the 3rd-5th graders. Help them line up when the morning bell rings.
2. Sit with the 8th graders at mass and make sure they behave. This will certainly be the big challenge of the day.
3. Sit in on Ms. Prihoda's 2nd, 3rd and 4th period science class. 8th graders again. They have a test on Friday so I'm just passing out study guides and keeping them on task.
I'm done by lunch, this shouldn't be hard at all. I'm going to eat my words I'm sure.

tips: question everything. sometimes we used to switch identities and places in the classroom when subs came in. also the subs who told awesome stories became the favorites that everyone liked more than the actual teacher. just don't start any stories like this "so i was on the pearl jam message board..." they will know your weakness and pinpoint it like the dogs they are.

if i had to teach kids, even in a substitute setting, i would prefer either really young kids or late high school age. the inbetween is not something i would want to deal with (although i guess 5th and 6th may be alright.)

I know a handful of the eighth graders romt he extended day program I work at, and trust me, you're right. Eighth grade is quite a difficult age. I think McParadigm would agree. Ideally I'd like to sub for the second graders but I'm excited about this too.

8th grade was the worst school year of my life. So much bullying and fights. Then I got suspended for the rest of the year in May for flipping a table over and telling the whole class to fuck off and commit suicide. Luckily my grades were high enough so I passed.
